    the point of jogging

what's the point of jogging?, stamina? can't you get that just fighting/shadow boxing some rounds?
it does'nt help with explosiveness if your jogging, infact jogging will make you slower as it develops your slow twitch muscles leaving behind your fast twitch muscles, you could always go full burst everynow and then but is'nt it somethin you can just do anywhere if you want explosive legs to move out of the way?, you dont need to run, just polymetrics and do short fast movements to wichever point you desire

so what is the point in jogging?,
it's just weight control i imagine
jogging(even though that **** will develop slow twitch mucles)
it will help you get the weight you desire in boxing? does'nt something more explosive help you lose weight easier plus make you stronger(not to mention more explosive)?

what im sayin is, jogging to me seems pointless to the point of its only use is that after some good aerobics the body can put on muscle easier
other than that jogging is pointless and i dont see why people run 10 or so miles, 6 should be the max(and it should be a good paced jog not slow)

or am i missing somethin here?

but ofcourse i say this for boxers, if we are trying to be boxers, why are we running instead of boxing?

I agree with you, see my post on tabata sprints. To be even more controversial, I'm starting to find other alternatives to skipping also, because the movements of skipping don't match those I personally use in boxing.

I'm not saying that we need to take this stuff from our programs, just vary it up a bit.

helps with weight control and stamina (mainly for pros) sprints are better for explosiveness in amateur boxing i agree, but the occasional long run is good for overall conditioning

yeah i hate jogging its pretty boring, i usually dont do it a lot unless we have finished training for the year (like now) and i need to stay in reasonable shape...its useful for that

if im getting ready for a fight i dont bother i do sprints much better for amateur boxing conditioning

gym work is 1000x funner and better than jogging but for pros long distance running is quite useful and shorter more explosive runs are helpful for amateurs

Kostya, I agree with the stamina over a long period of time because pro is so different to amateurs. I'm currently in the ring for 10 rounds so I need the endurance for that. I do however suck at sprinting and want to increase the intensity of each round and my ability to recover in the breaks.

I don't like jogging much but i prefer steady state runs to sprints and **** . When i do sprints i find it hard to push myself when i'm not with any training buddies . If I was to join a boxing gym though i would start sprinting 2 to 3 mins 1 min rest . I like chilling at a good pace for about 5 or 6 miles , not to slow , not to fast . Not out of breath that much , probably just be able to hold a conversation but with difficulty .But at he end of a run i usually sprint the last 100 maybe 200 metres until i almost throw up so i know i've worked hard.

Do 3 rounds of sparing and them tell me. If you havnt jogged/run it will be hard if you have it will be alot easyer.

Ive always found that doing a mixture of sprints while im doing jogging routine to help me out alot. start out jogging then sprint for some distance then take it back to a jog and repeat. Its good for simulating a fight.

you can get that same stamina and quicker just doing more sparring

I think the reason is stamina and weight control. As far as why not just box more? I think career boxers and some amateurs simply cannot box 8 hours a day -- it is way to tough on the body. Fighters need a low impact way to get their cardio up and jogging provides that. I think ridding a bike, swimming, etc., would do the same thing, but jogging is free and all it requires is a pair of running shoes.

Why does the top fighters in the sport religiously run? there must be something to it. IMO it makes you much lighter on your feet and I can feel the difference between running and not....
