    I read the bagwork and shadowboxing sparring and **** is anerobic and for upperbody endurance punch power and the roadwork is for when circling the ring , aerobic, but the way to train for boxing is train as you fight . Sprint hard for the length of your round and recover for the 1 min rest , best bet is to go the extra distance over 2 or 3 minutes and keep trying to push yourself further . On rossboxing he says 9 out of 10 times if you put a boxer in who does his roadwork with one who doesn't the one who does his roadwork will win .

      It's partly one of those old things passed down with the wisdom of ages. That is, if it has always worked as a training method, it will always be taught.

      Also, it is a way to train the heart and lungs, get "your wind", without ****ing up yours hands, face, etc. with too much sparring.

        it's better to get staimina that way then getting **** up in sparring and risked getting injured.....

              I used to do alot of roadwork . In the last 3 years I have changed my workout schedule and don't run as much as I did . I spar over 100 rounds in 4 weeks before a fight and lift weights in the first 3 weeks of my 8 weeks preperation programme . I train all my bodyparts equally . I have no additional motivation with a training partner because boxing is like golf , it's all about only your performance .I don't skip much because I have to stop myself from overtraining . I love to swim now , which I never used to and I find padwork very important . It can help with your strategy .:

                Jogging is one of the best ways to get fit fast. Good if you are coming off a break Also depends on whether you are amateur or pro. Will help pros more, but amateurs can still do sprints/intervals etc. It also strengthens the legs for footwork, its convenient when away from the gym, breaks up routine of gymwork. A sports scientist would be able to fill in the details.

                Sure you dont have to jog, but your arms will take a pounding if you are doing lots of bagwork, shadow boxing just doesnt hit the cardio as hard, skipping can get boring.

                    I'm not pro, but my method of training is based around being a good fighter, rather than simply getting through the point system of an amateur match. So when I spar I am in the ring for about 10 rounds, rather than 3 or 4.

                      Fighter = Jogging.

                      I'll tell you what. Trying running, and then see what happens. And then don't run and then see what happens.

                      I can't explain why. It's just an age old things that fighters have been doing for generations and generations and generations.

                      Oh yeah, it sucks and i'd rather no run. But if i wanna be a fighter, that's what i gotta do.

                      And the part that sucks is as much as i run, i don't run enough.
