Exactly. The trilogy was always going to happen, and Benavidez was on board with it until he wasn't.

He dropped it to fight a tougher opponent first. I mean, Usyk dropped a belt to fight Fury 2 instead of Dubois, but was that a duck as well?

Although I'm not a betting person but if the question was which was more likely, the winner (assuming Bivol for this case) refusing to re-unify with Benny or Benny/PBC refusing to do the undisputed unification I'd say the latter aka PBC is more likely to think of some reason not to fight Bivol citing money or whatever, but after the trilogy is over, Bivol has no one else that is better money to fight since Canelo isn't rematching him. Instead of a shabby mandatory I do think he'd go for Benny next.

            .
Who thinks Beterbiev is a tougher opponent? Your or Bivol? He thinks the guy he just beat is tougher? I doubt it.

I mean tougher compared between Beterbiev and Benavidez. If tougher is the wrong term, I'll reword it...which do you think Bivol will have an easier time defeating? Beterbiev 3 or Benavidez? I think Bivol will have an easier time beating Benny.

Technically agreed but it ain't like it's his first title, or we don't know what he can really do now is it?

But yeah, the whole elevating to champ without a fight thing gotta GO.

My point is, your assuming Bivol thinks Beterbiev is the harder fight, which I don't think is true. He just beat Beterbiev and he is going on 41, while David is a prime Lion.

We're talking about an alphabet belt, so who cares? Bivol is still the world champion, and the Bivol-Beterbiev III winner can defend the world title against Benavidez later. The WBC belt is irrelevant.

I think it is a mixture of that he's confident in beating both either way, but will get better money by going Beter 3 first before Benny even if he ends up vacating one belt.

If he fights Benny next, he will likely win but could lose out on Beter 3 money given that there is a chance Beter retires by the time he's open to fight Beter again if not next. Not to mention, Turki might sour on him and as a result he may not get sweet deals anymore if he doesn't do Beter 3 first.

If he fights Beter 3 first, he gets that money AND he can also do an unification with Benny afterwards to get both plus more. So the choice is Benny money from PBC while potentially losing future Saudi money, or Beter 3 AND Benny money while also keeping good relations with the wallet...err, Turki.

One thing I'm pretty sure is that I don't think Bivol dropped the belt because he thought Benny would beat him.
