The Shot Willard lands on Johnson

Absolute howitzer. I don’t know the back story or the excuses, but thats a real solid shot that lands. The type that would and did lay a man out.

Terrific right hand that produced a ko .Sam McVey Johnson's second said Jack didn't quite know where he was when they got him back on his feet.
.Willard had earlier knocked out two of Johnson's gold teeth with a left hook, Johnson swallowed them rather than let Jess and the crowd know.

Shields his face from the hot Havana sun. Ya, right.

Johnson was human, and old; and Willard was far better than the Dempsey film would have you believe.

        - - Johnson was likely in the best shape of his life going 26 rd mostly taking it Willard who played a savvy defensive leaning strategy to negate the power.

Yeah, he didn't handle his fame well and went on a Bill Cody Wild West tour where he was feted royally doing some cowboy tricks and minor sparring. He totally dismissed Dempsey as some kind a kid midget before he came crashing down.

At 225 lbs Johnson was the heaviest he had ever been in a ring,he hadn't fought for a year ,was 37 years old carrying a spare tire round his hips and excess pork on his ass,he was a far cry from the 208lbs of muscle that had humiliated Old Jeffries five years earlier.

I’m pretty sure Johnson at his best gets Willard. He was dealing with him pretty effectively for most of the fight. I just mean a lot of excuses are brought up surrounding the fight - but that punch is as real as it gets. Johnson got iced

Johnson the very next morning told the promoter," he beat me fair and square I have no kick coming." The referee stated, had the fight been over 20 rounds he would have had no hesitation in raising Johnson's hand as the winner, age and lack of conditioning got to Jack.
It's a story as old as the hills.
After the Jeffries fight Johnson was never again in top condition, his lifestyle sent him on a course that could only end one way.In defeat.

It was a shame Johnson lied and said he took a dive. But he was caught in many a lie.
