The Best Of The Glass Chins

Who was the greatest of the glass chinned boxers at any weight. I got the idea as I typed that lewis was the greatest and remembered willie saying something about his two defeats making it hard to see him as the best. This was because he was so badly knocked out.
we all know boxers who were amazing in the ring but were let down by having weak chins.
Who are the greatest boxers who were let down because they had a weak chin and couldn't take a punch?

Probably not "the greatest" because haven't really thought about it but Terry Norris could have perhaps had an ATG career if he could take a punch better.

Harold Johnson didn't have a glass chin but if he has an iron chin he'd have at least one more win over Archie Moore and not lost some fights whereby he was definitely the better fighter.

I actually think Amir Khan would have been a hard guy to beat had he had an iron chin instead of a total glass one.

I also wouldn't consider Lennox Lewis as having a bad or weak chin.

I'd definitely include Thomas Hearns in there, perhaps he's the greatest weak-chinned fighter of all time.

And also, Roy Jones Jr if we consider the final part of his career. He had been untouchable until Tarver, but after that his chin just went.

Man, I gotta go with Terry Norris or Julian Jackson.

Either one of them would be a top 20 fighter of all-time if they had a chin.

I think guys like Roy Jones & Thomas Hearns had average chins that deteriorated over time.

Amir Khan was a dumb fighter, who even if he had a good chin, would've been countered to death because he liked to rush in with his chin out.

I think Tommy's chin was solid at welter and light-middle.

In 9 years at those weights (77-86) he was stopped once when weight drained in the greatest welter fight of all time.

The Hagler fight showed he was tough, a broken right hand from the start and took dozens of brutal punches.

The jumping up to from light-middle to light-heavy and back down to middle again cost him though.

By the time Barkley caught lightening in a bottle his punch resistance was very reduced, plus of course that almost always happens when fighters move up through the weights.
