I disagree, I think 80's movies are way better than any crap that
        comes out nowadays.

Okey, I may agree with a lot of the movies you posted like The Untouchables.. But I serious doubt a movie like Back To The Future or Breakfast club would be rated that high by todays standard.

People have metioned movies like pet cemetary and The Running Man .. I didn't say post any movie you might be able to sit through without killing yourself.. I said post the classic movies.. People putting up such movies in a top ten only further my beliefs in the 1980's was a weak era for the movie industry
I think Back To The Future would be popular if it was released today. Kids like it, and I'm certain that most adults would rather watch a film like that than watch Finding Nemo or Fish Dance or whatever.

You wanna know what good 80s films there were? People have named plenty.

I dunno why the film being considered a 'classic' is such a big deal to you. Lots of films are considered classic and yet a lot of people wouldn't enjoy them. You gonna go watch a 1930s film instead of something recent and good, just because the 1930s film is considered a classic? Come on now...

Oh, and if Pet Semetary is so bad and the modern era is so good, you should be aware that they're remaking it. Yeah, this era is so much better than the 80s that it has to rip it off and steals its ideas:gay:

Many modern films are just sequels and remakes. Main****** films have less originality than they did in the past. The current era is not a great one, save for the low-budget, independent and foreign films that are being made.

Lol, you don't believe many films from the 1980's were remakes? Let me tell you both The Fly, Scarface and even The Thing was a remake..

Seems to me many of these lowbudget film from the 1980's stole the ideas from many of these 1920-1960's movies aswell.. Making your point invalid.

By "today's" standard? Are you serious? OK let's pretend for a moment you are serious. Yeah Speed Racer is better than the Goonies. The 1980s produced some classic movies, and invented the modern blockbuster. Ghostbusters, Aliens, the Terminator, Batman are all classic blockbusters, and films like Full Metal Jacket, Raging Bull and Blade Runner show that 80s movies could have tremendous depths as well.

Then we have the conclusions to the star wars trilogy, we have Terry Gilliam's magnum opus, Brazil, we have Day of the Dead, we have the Elephant Man, Ghandi, Hellraiser, Labyrinth, Nightmare on Elm Street, First Blood, RUMBLE FISH!

              The 80s was awesome!

All 3 were significantly different to the original, especially The Fly. But I take your point, there were remakes in the past as well.

The thing is though, there are more remakes nowadays, I would say. Let The Right One In was one of the best films of the past couple of years, and already they are remaking it in English.

Remakes of old films, remakes of foreign films, sequels, films of video games etc. I just think there is a lot more recycling of ideas than there was 20-25 years ago.

Lets say for a moment nightmare on elm street never dropped.. It got lost for some weird reason.. The year is 2009 and surprise, It's found and is being shown to the public for the first time.. What you think peoples reactions would be to Johnny Depp falling down a hole in his bed and a HUGE shower of blood coming up..?

Not, lets not even get into the c+ acting.. This scene alone would make the audience break down in laughter..

Nightmare On Elm Street is a great film, and there's nothing wrong with the acting.

If special effects are such a big deal to you, then you should stick to Transformers or whatever.

The fact is that the further back in time you go, the less realistic the effects are going to be. If that's such a big deal to you, you should've made clear that impressive CGI was part of your judging critera from the start...
