- - I've seen just about every Monzon fight recorded, and indeed he is impressive in how unimpressive his style is, yet ranked fighters end up keeling over and otherwise mysteriously get whooped. I call it "The Keep It Simple, ******," ie The KISS philosophy.

Monzon knew how to fight tall but could brawl in the trenches too. Great at controlling range. Not real fast, not real slow. B- for speed. Teeing off even with one arm tied up. Copious borderline rabbit puncher a la Fullmer. Throws a good shot. Never saw him have to take a beauty. Punches he did take seemed not to affect him much. If I could see only one mythical fight it would be Hagler/Monzon.

- - 4 year overlap as Monzon was aging into retirement. Marv as up and comer had several setbacks including one after Monzon retired.
