    Tunney versus Beterbiev

Who wins this? Tunney liked to mix it up, He fought some real monsters in the ring... Beterbiev has that ATG level power... Bigger does not mean punches harder... Does Beter have enough to put Tunney away?

At 175lbs I'm going for Tunney I think he would box Beterbiev's head off.

      - - Beter even more deadly w/6 oz horsehair gloves. Tunney could run like he did much of Dempsey, but Beter bigger and stronger than both is not to be trifled with by soft fans…

Such an unqualified statement. Beterbiev is 6' and trains down to 175. Dempsey 6'1" and trained down to the 190's. Beter isn't nearly as fleet of foot as Dempsey either, shows little head movement and comes in a straight line more times than not. While I may question Tunney's resume at heavyweight, his talent and skill at 175 is far superior to what we've seen from Beterbiev.

I think bb is deceptive. He throws a punch in a manner that is throwback to when guys came from the shoulder towards the target. If you see old pictures of fighters training preclassically, before Dempsey you will see the shot is brought from a straight line from the shoulder. Not so much a looping delivery, rather an angle slightly downwards from the shoulder or straight depending on the target.

You can get a lot of power from this delivery and I think BB does. Tunney was very clever and had technical expertise from two eras. The conventional logic would be he out boxes BB.

Yet I liken bb to the mythos of Marciano... Against strange odds both men get the job done. The only thing that prevents me from calling it a wash for Tunney is the amount of clever boxers BB has beaten I'm including his amateur days... It just makes me wonder a little bit before calling it for t u n n e y lol.

How do you figure Beter what's bigger or stronger than Dempsey? That makes no sense.

Wasn't it Dempsey before the fight who pushed for going to a neutral corner? Clear this up for me.

Yes.Benny Leonard and Hype Igoe watched the film of the fight over several days and corrected its running speed, their conclusion was Tunney was on the floor between 17 and 18 seconds. When Tunney floored Dempsey the referee began counting immediately, although Tunney at no time went to a neutral corner.
Tunney had close ties to the Philadelphia mob he had borrowed $200,000 from its leader Max Boo Boo Hoff .
The referee Dave Barry ran a speak easy.My point being Tunney is generally represented as this squeaky clean athlete and he wasn't.
