We have witnessed many athletes and famous people admit to this issue. Some people think they are making excuses but I think it is reality and if those well known people make it public maybe more people will seek help.

The US doesn't take healthcare seriously so its no surprise mental health gets so few ppl with power talking about it.
A lot of homeless ppl could be helped if mental health was taken seriously. A lot of veterans would be in better situations or alive if it was taken seriously. A lot of kids struggling would be in better situations or alive.

No shit? Your mind / soul / spirit ain't working right nothing else you got means shit. That's your subjective perceptual universe right there - the filters through which you understand the world around you and your place in it. When it's maladjusted or misfiring, all joy, all happiness, anything that makes life worth living can be sucked right away no matter how great your life may appear from the outside.
Although I would suggest that even the idea of separating 'mental health' from all other areas of the more nebulous concept 'wellbeing' probably represents a flawed way of looking at the issue. Your mental, physical, social and spiritual health can't really be thought of as a separate things but more as part of a unified and interdependent whole for which holistic solutions must be sought.

I agree mental health is a serious issue.
My problem is certain posters misapply it.
When an upper middle class kid from the suburbs gets radicalized online and carefully plans and then executes shooting up a school, the defense is mental health.
When a poor kid from the urban areas that have similar characteristics to the war zones that cause PTSD in our soldiers shoots up a block or a party, the term mental illness is never used.
Let’s just get to the point where those truly suffering from mental health issues are properly diagnosed and treated.billeau2

I think that everybody gets stressed and everybody gets anxious, and everybody can get sad and if that sadness maintains itself most people will get depressed.
I've never known anyone for any real length of time that hasn't shown signs of all of those. But equally in Britain anyway while there is more dialogue about it - there is a perception that you suffer from ill mental health.
We all have a mental health bar that will dip and peak. When it dips something has to be done you'll be running on empty in no time.
I think some people worry that poor mental health doesn't manifest physically. When of course it does.
If you're stressed you release cortisol. This will raise your heart rate and your blood pressure as you prepare for fight or flight. This stress might be fine if it is situation that resolves quickly. If it doesn't and the stressor is something you have that remains. You're gonna have to acknowledge that and do something to fix it.
If you will stay in that stage of alert with your heart rate elevated and your blood crashing around around the walls of your blood vessels.
What do you think is gonna happen eventually?
You're gonna have to take a deep breath. Literally.Last edited by Sparked_26; 05-26-2024, 11:51 AM.Citizen Koba likes this.

I didn’t mention race. I mentioned middle class suburban kids and poor urban kids. That said, the posters that defend the school shooters while never defending poor kids in urban areas are posters like you because one tends to be white and the other non white.
People like you that are pro gun use mental illness to deflect from discussing gun violence in America. Mental illness is just your go to deflection.
Just as I said in my post, you are misapplying mental illness.
Pointing out the way you and those like you treat gun violence differently by socioeconomic status because of the way it impacts the discussion on gun violence is fine.
Once again you can’t engage in the discussion topic because you can’t refute the point made. You talked about me and race, not mental health.
Notice how I agree with the TS it is a serious issue. I just think the problem is using it when it doesn’t apply.
This is a clear example of how you aren’t capable of debating a topic using facts as I stated previously.Last edited by The Big Dunn; 05-26-2024, 01:14 PM.

Uh oh, an actual serious discussion here. I wonder how long this lasts before it gets shut down or any accounts get deleted by the war against the machines. Quick, someone find Kyle Reese.Willy_Hagler_3:16 likes this.
