heard mackerel is not healthy for you... i live about 10min away from the ocean, i used to go fishing on the pier in the summer and would catch hundreds of mackerels in a single night. gave most of it away to other people.

Whut? Don't think so... generally the oily fish are considered amongst the most beneficial health-wise

Unless there's something locally to where you are like some kinda polution of heavy metal toxicity got into the marine food chain perhaps?

We used to either catch and release or chop those suckers up for bait. I didn't even know folks ate them till I saw them on the menu at a nice restaurant.

We used to catch lots of Bonita too. Those we kept

from what i heard, mackerels have high mercury... i just remember friends at work telling me they start having fast heart beat by eating mackerel daily.

Big fan of Red Snapper though, when I can afford it. Go simple, grilled or barbecued with just a drizzle of olive oil, lemon juibce salt and pepper, rubbed with a little crushed garlic. Really don't like to overcomplicate or overpower fish.
