    wear and tear through running

What do you think about this. My dad was talking to someone today and he has to have both hips replaced. The guy used to run between 60-70 miles a week and they say that could have been a contributing factor. Hes probably not even 50.. apparently. poor bloke

No ****. That's the price you pay when you try to live an athletic dream. There is always a price. Nothing new..

If you run correctly it will limit these problems. Don't run on pavement, run on a track or on a soccer field, football field. Less hard on the knees and hip joints.

70 miles a week would be 10 miles a day. I don't know how much guys should run, but that's just about half a marathon a day, I tihnk that's too much.

I bike a lot, it's better on your knees and hips.

a marathon a day sounds like way too much wear and tear, 3 miles a day would be a lot better

How many times do I need to say it? Run on the dirt or grass. Stay off the asphalt and concrete. We didn't evolve running on this crap. Use common sense......

you do realize that people run on concrete because running around a field is very boring and running on concrete/through parks is good through the scenery and probably improves workouts..

I run between 3 and 4 miles a day and it all depends on how my body feels. If I have sore joints I'll run 3 miles and if I feel good I'll run 4. Simple, listen to your body and you'll be ok.

This is the main reason why I inline skate instead of run for my roadwork, though many argue that you don't get nearly the same workout compared to running, I think the intensity you run(in my case skate) is a major factor of it.

Sounds like a case of who knows what the **** the idiot was doing his whole life. In any case, distances should be done mostly on grass and dirt, unless one is planning to road race, in which case one must run on the street at least once per week so the legs don't go into shock, since most races are in the street. A young guy can get away with training on the street and sidewalks, but it will catch up with you young bucks years down the road as you are training the devil into you body..... This site has great icons....
