Comments Thread For: Golovkin, Murray On Weight For Middleweight Title Fight

Gennady Golovkin and Martin Murray are ripped and ready for their middleweight clash, as the two collide Saturday evening at Salle des toiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Golovkin tipped the scales at a shredded 158.9 lb., while the equally supremely conditioned Murray crept right under the middleweight limit at a fighting ready 159.9 lb.

The bout will air live from location on HBO, marking the network's first ever boxing telecast from the luxurious resort location in its 40+ years in the business.

Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs) attempts the 13th defense of his middleweight title, having held at least one portion of the crown since Aug. '10. The hard-hitting Kazakhstani has turned heads since his amateur days - capped by a silver medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics - and especially since turning pro in 2006. [Click Here To Read More]

He was only a few pounds over 160 finishing camp, I'm sure he can make 154 but he would just get ducked into fighting a nobody.

I was surprised to see how many British fans were at the weigh in, and they were making a lot of noise too.

Murray looked in awesome condition - big for the weight, ripped, and very confident.

GGG looked the way he always does - innocent, baby face, stuck on top of a muscular, athlete's body.

There was no attempt by either guy to psyche or indimidate the other during the face-off, and neither of them said anything. They just looked into each other's eyes for a few seconds, then shook hands and that was that. Both guys are just ready to go, without any bull****.

This is going to be GGG's best toughest challenge yet, I reckon.

Of course he can make 154... But who would dare to take him? Mayweather? Cotto? As about Canelo... He can't even make 154, I guess... and he holds no belt at the moment...
... I think that Lara would take such a fight -- but Lara doesn't bring money on the table...

(Don't forget: Russians always had big issues in beating Cubans...)

Yeah exactly, the only big event opponent at 154 who would actually fight him (Canelo) is basically a middleweight anyway.
