I think it is a BS rumor, given that Canelo literally has zero benefit fighting in Japan. There isn't anywhere close to enough Mexicans/Americans living in Japan interested in him, and practically no casual Japanese boxing fan knows his name because he fights in the Asian dead zone division per se and unlike Crawford/Usyk his name doesn't even get referred to in the million articles spamming Inoue's names. The very few hardcore boxing fans who do follow the higher weights jump past 168 straight to HW. Hell, Fulton fighting Nery at 126 or Tapales fighting Casimero at 122 in Japan would do better than Canelo (not great but certainly better) given they are better known to the public.

Unless RIZIN decided to go insane to pay him for a crossover exhibition match ala Pacquiao, he's got zero reason to fight here.
