Damn... Okay still not really got any kinda consensus, although the leaning from the CREW is maybe all 3.

Thing is I can see the rationale for skipping Taylor Catterall but I'm also keen to include major fights of significance.

Okay, my boy siablo14 ain't gonna be happy but I reckon it's gonna be a 3 fight week then... still only brings us up to an average of 6 fights a month (72 per year) which ain't a lot but I expect things to get busier going in. Just gonna have to keep an eye on it.

Right. Gotta get up to my mum's finish off tiling her bathroom so I ain't really got the time now but I'll get the thread up later this p.m

My only gripe is that Cuadras vs Bam should have been included in the Pick 'Em too if that's the criteria. It was a major fight for the WBC title, with closer odds and more intrigue going in than Taylor vs Catterall.

Just looking for some consistency with this new 2022 approach. Leave it to Siablo to make a suggestion that ruins things.

Nah, I'm not really seeing that.... or at least if you were gonna make a comparison it'd be between Carlos vs Bam and Postol vs Russell. Carlos - like Postol - may still have a name, and a reputation for making dudes work for it but he ain't beaten anyone worth a damn in like 5 or 6 years and it was for one vacant title. Bam was no more than a hot ticket prospect before the fights much like Gary is on Saturday even though there's no title on the line in this one.

Taylor's an undisputed champion and widely considered a top 10 P4Per.... I'm including that the same way I'm always gonna include virtually any Canelo fight or any Spence or Crawford fight, certainly if they're matched against an unbeaten fighter even if their opponent ain't thought to have much chance.

And FWIW TBRB which is kinda my standard reference has Catterall in at #10 although I'd probably consider that a slight push myself... either way 4 titles with a P4Per is a whole other level of significance to Cuadras vs Bam for 1 title.

I hear you though... it is kinda hard work sometimes keeping consistency up over the course of the year. I know I say this every year but Ima aim to put up a monthly schedule in advance as far as possible starting with March, hopefully doing it that way should give us more of a overview and let us smooth out the bumps over a full month... also reckon it means there's more time for player comment and less last minute scrambling to decide what's in and what's out.

And yeah... got a soft spot for siablo, genuinely like the dude but more than that he was right there at the start when we took over from BroBob 4 years ago (I began the '2018 pick em rescue thread' at the end of February 2018) so maybe I feel like I owe him a little... although he ain't the only one suggested that maybe we slow the pace a bit.

To me it's not so much about the Josh Taylor fight being included as it is about other fights being potentially left out.

Taylor is a massive favorite, -1350 according to Sporting News. The odds on Carlos Cuadras vs Bam were significantly closer than that...Cuadras was like a +240 underdog.

Cuadras is a known name from beating Sor Rungvisai and being in tough fights with Chocolatito and Estrada. Bam is a highly touted young gun from Robert Garcia's gym. It was a title fight which NC Uppercut says he wants to include as many of on the board as possible.

So I fail to see how it wasn't significant and worthy of an add that week. Certainly for North American fans it was.

Duly noted man. Like I say my aim is to kinda find a balance that works for everyone so hopefully if/when I can get the monthly schedule up and running it gives us a better chance to work out the best compromises.

Mammoth was smelling that upset since it got announced I think.
It wasnt an upset though. Bet365 opened bam is an underdog but he was instantly bet down to a big favourite.

Yeah I wasn't surprised at all at that one... fact I think I mentioned that I thought Jessie would take it even though it was a big step up.

Main thing was there were three bigger fights that weekend anyway though it's debateable whether Thurman vs Barrios actually made a better Pick Em and it also didn't have a strap on the line.

I noticed that when I went back and looked up the odds for that fight. Bam wasn't the underdog come fight time. Fair point.

Liam Williams was a slightly bigger underdog against Eubank than Castro vs Bam. And there was no strap for that fight.

Luis Nery vs Carlos Castro also had no strap on the line. Although it did have closer odds.

So I'm sure you can see how one might think that there's no consistency in the stated standards.

But selecting the Pick 'Em fights and knowing the Pick'Em schedule ahead of time would eliminate this problem.
