Various Ring Sizes, Some Standard, Some Not

    Shavers/Norton 18.5—324.5

    Hagler/Duran 20

    Duran/Viruet ll 18.5 ft

    Griffith/Paret 1 20 ft

    Beterbiev/C Smith—18 ft

    Kessler/Ward—18 ft.

    Foreman/Stewart—18 ft

    Leonard/Hagler—24 ft

    Marciano/Cockell 16 feet

    Joshua/Ruiz 22 feet

    * * * * * *
The list makes obvious how ring size can favor one opponent.

How would you like your prospects against Ray Leonard in a 24 foot ring, or Marciano in a 16 foot one? Rock's ring has only 44% of the foot space of Leonard's!

If anyone sees a mistake, please correct.

It's funny because on paper those sizes don't seem that far apart. But when you get in or see different sized rings up close.......it's a world of difference.

      QB calls for 24

Given the size difference, which sucks more? Marciano in a 16 or George in an 18? They both gun git yew

After Leonard agreed to let Hagler have the larger purse, Hagler agreed to let Leonard choose the gloves (10-ounce Reyes), the number of rounds (12) and the size of the ring (20-foot).

I have absolutely no sympathy for Hagler.

He was facing a Welter who had had one poor fight in 5 years.

He was a consensus top 5 AT Middle.

Ray won fair and square - 115-113 on my card.

Almost 40 uears of Marvin whining about it changed nothing except me losing some respect for him.

Right. Intuitively, few would would guess that a 16 foot ring has less than half the floor space of a 24 foot ring.

One can find the ring size variously given as 20, 22 or 24 ft, depending on the source. I have found it as all three.

Poor Marvin's problem was that he was neither smart nor a good ring general. At the negotiating table he was merely a private. Ray had this fight won at the negotiating table.

When a fighter wins at the negotiating table I have less respect for the win. Without the larger gloves, the larger ring and the shorter fight, I feel their is a pretty good chance Marvin emerges victorious.
