Joe Rogan: MMA is going to go the way of Boxing... Star driven sport

Joe Rogan stated on his podcast that McGregor is the biggest star mma has had and he wants to be his own boss and wants to do his own thing and make as much money as possible. He said what has happened with boxing stars going and doing their own promotion is going to be the same thing that is going to happen in MMA. He said fighters are going to say why is UFC making this much when they are not the ones getting their brains bashed in.

UFC apparently only pays the fighters about 12-14% of the revenue generated...

I just hope it doesn't go the way of the top fighters ducking the best opponents.

Conor " I panic wrestle" is already ducking Khabib hard. Also ducking the Aldo rematch. Knows he got a lucky punch in.

It's going that way because the UFC is refusing to pay fighters a fair share of money.

I love Rogan. Listened to his podcast since like episode 20 and they just did 908 last night, but he can be a lil f#cking nuts about sh_t sometimes and this is one of those times. Pretty sure about 14 months ago he calling Rousey the best MMA fighter ever or something equally apesh_t crazy.

MMA had stars before. Conor isn't the first. He's the biggest, but I got lil doubt some guy who's got one UFC fight right now or some guy who isn't even pro yet will break his records within the next 3-5 years. And I mean let's not overstate Conor's stardom. The UFC has confirmed only recently it's a 4 billion dollar company and if we compare Conor's numbers to peak Floyd and Manny numbers what does that make him a $40 million man vs the $10M-$15M he's getting now?

And from what Conor said recently during his PPV thing it sounds like he wants McGregor Promotions to be more of a feeder league into the UFC and he wants to work with them along with eventually becoming a owner of a piece of the company. He doesn't wanna flip the sport on its head like making it like boxing would do.

If anything f#cks up MMA it'll be the Muhammad Ali Act coming into MMA. And even then idk if it can f#ck up things to the level boxing has done as a sport that has no leadership beyond the next big money grab fight a promoter is trying to push.

Agreed about Rogan. I tend to like bat**** crazy lol, especially when it is underwritten with solid intelligence, so I cut him some slack. prognosticators will prognosticate... Things will probably change for UFC in ways one cannot even imagine.

Um, MMA has always been a star driven business. When the superstars aren't around, the public isn't nearly as interested. Kind of a DUH statement.
