Music is my passion in life. I been playing guitar for 11 years. I also bass, keyboards, and sing a little (but can't sing that well, lol).
I also grew up as a percussionist in marching band since 8th grade.
Few pointers:
1. The more you practice the better. But it's more practical to play for 15 minutes every single day than 8 hours once a week.
I recommend 30 minutes to an hour for a beginner. Then you can bump up to two hours a day. When I first lost my job, I was playing guitar for 8-10 hrs a day. But that's just me.
2. It's very important to learn theory and proper techniques in playing your instrument.
But you really need to also learn how to play something fun. Like a well known song to keep the interests. Playing Mary had a little lamb might be necessary for a beginner, but play a famous well known song you like to show off your progress to your friends.
3. That being said. Just have fun. I been playing in bands for so many years, I recently lost track of why I play music in the first place. Because it makes me feel alive.
So enjoy yourself. I never jammed with an accordion player, but I jammed with a 55 year old viola player once. We played death metal, lol.

Haha thanks for pointers. Yeah I've always wanted to play an instrument. I love music with accordian. That's what im averaging right now about 30-45 mins a day. I have a cousin that plays acoustic guitar so we might practice songs together. Nothing serious though. But im sure I will have fun. I know some Italian dude who says he will teach me a lil bit when he has time. Glad to know you have a history with music.
