Seriously I met great people. VERY FRUGAL! not a bad thing at all. I tend to think Canadians are generally healthier, but Americans are very comfortable with violence. you can see the disparity when you look at Buffalo just across the border from Toronto. When I was in Toronto they thought Parkdale was a bad neighborhood because of **********s. I thought this was hillarious. Buffalo has some projects that would probably scare a lot of Canadians, and some bad areas likewise.
I have heard that gangs in Toronto are starting to get more dangerous, and I do believe there is cross pollination, as a lot of citizens of Canada have been in the states and vice versa. Also, Toronto is not that far from Chicago, or Detroit.
You know... Back in the 1920's Chicago was a backwater but for gang land guys laced up in New York City. That includes Capone and his main enforcer Nitti. So, Toronto in particular might have a similar thang with Chi town.
I also have heard that Montreal has a lot of organized crime and biker gangs that operate... Just never been there.
