Well I'm not sure if its home improvement or not but I'm doing a conversion on my garage turning it into a wood shop. I've always enjoyed wood working and in my older years I've acquired all sorts of tools including a lathe and planer among other things so I figured why not ya know

I tore out tile and did wood flooring. I painted the house. I did reclaimed wood around the breakfast bar. I did crown molding. The typical yard stuff, we're on a acre so that means work. I welded up a rack for the garage that is on a power wench system that raises it and lowers it for extra storage.

Other projects. I bought another boat and redid the whole thing to make it new again, it wasnt old but it was abused. Wet sanded it and cut and buffed it. Fiberglass work, new carpet, new gauges and steering wheel. New trolling motor and wheels and tires that yeah I mounted and balanced myself.

Truck got new rims and tires. Built a fiberglass sub box for the truck. Installed AMP steps and new lift kit parts. New aftermarket shocks. I applied lineX as we have a machine at the shop. New aftermarket headlights.

Built a couple new AR pistols.

With the surgey keeping me out for a bit thats about all this year.

I cant Green K you but would... Great idea for a thread!

I am at this professionally, through real estate... I usually assume the role ad hoc of general contractor... I then hire who I want to do the work itself.

So, I have a livable shed, of about 300 feet, that I plan to insulate, then build a composting bathroom and shower onto. This is so we have more stomping room than the RV trailer on the property... RV's suck in the winter lol. This is all to tide us over until we build our house, which will be a Qhut steel building, done solar powered.

We do get to hang out in San Francisco for a while as well... lol. So we rough it and then we get a break for the holidays.

            Man Down

You are in my neck of the woods... so I am assuming you are not far from Reno. I made contacts in Reno for stuff I am doing professionally. I mention this because I have a guy who has a yard with materials... I am talking oak palleting, all kinds of barrels, tanks, insulation materials, etc. He is dirt cheap... actually he became a friend lol, as I am down there quite a bit. I am building small housing units in his yard, to offer on the lots I am selling.

I mention this because if you ever want to build something nice, you obviously have the skills, you could buy great quality materials... for example, the material cost for one of my spec homes, the middle size @400 Sq feet, is about 250 bucks! Floors: Oak from Oak pallets, Walls are pallet wood as well, plastic tanks and totes for water with a solar powered on demand heater, composting toilet (not allowed yet in Nevada but can be converted to septic easily), etc.

Also I have not visited it yet, but the Habitat for Humanity is rumored to have great stuff also... this is in Reno as well.

I just could see you building a really nice structure... call it what you need, and doing so at a real reduced cost. I am probably going to use materials from his yard for insulation as well... havent decided yet.

Let me hear your thoughts on this because I keep going back and forth on it.... I currently live in a condo, when I purchased it 1 year ago it came with brand new carpet. I hated carpet but after closing cost, down payment, etc... I didn’t have the fund to switch them into hardwood. Being Asian I always take my shoe off anyway, and now I actually like carpet because it’s soft on my feet and doesn’t echo when I walk or run in the house which has been great since COVID because I do HIT training at home now.

Should I change my carpet into wood floor just for the look or should I keep the carpet for comfort?

I got the idea from man down's thread, we were talking about miter saws, so I thought to myself, why not make my girl a desk, since she didn't like anything from IKEA.

Plus I've been watching a bunch of videos about making an "L" shaped desk, so I bought the lumber this morning and the miter saw on Thursday from harbor freight.

I'm gonna start tomorrow morning, hopefully I can finish most of it tomorrow.

His name wouldn't happen to be angle would it?

Thanks for the info! I built a shed when we moved in but like always I'm out of room so I might build another one. Good info thanks.

You'll need to square up that saw. HF has a good video on their site about setting it up. You'll love that thing.
