    Ever take a pay cut?

I was thinking about this the other day. My brother took this job that is easily 100k less than what he used to make (he hadn't been working for a couple of years, just trading) and he seems happy and that it is just part of life.

I have another friend who makes half of what he used to, and he seems happy too.
My cousin is a pilot and at one point they got their pay whacked heavily and he is cool with it.

I took two pay cuts in my life total, I think one was 16k per year less and I was honestly the biggest complainer and baby about it for the couple of years I made less. And the messed up part is I was still making decent money for a big city.

Did you guys ever take a big paycut? Like your job ends or you get laid off then you get back and are making less?

How did you react? Were you angry all the time or did you just treat it as part of the ups and downs of life?

I was a server at a high end restaurant and made a killing on tips. Got promoted to manager and made less and worked more hours. But it was steady and led to a better job.

That never happened to me fortunately but I would not accept paycuts anywhere. Downgrading or going backwards isnt acceptable to me.

I hope it never happens to you. Sometimes depending on field it's unavoidable especially in my cousin's case where they cut all pilots pay. You can't just go somewhere else and say yeah i am a 767 piilot with x experience and they will pay you x. You have to start over if you did that because that field is all based on seniority where you are.

I don't deal with that well at all- just kind of surprised people do but I guess they realize there are ups and downs in life.

Only if everyone else did, for the sake of the team.....with the assurance that compensation will be given once the comp is back in the black.

yes... at a start up, which needed to show our burn rate was low, so we could interest investors...

Yeah, when I started a family I needed to change to a regular job with regular hours. My pay went backwards by about 25% when I stopped getting extra money for working odd hours.

Only took about a year at the new job before I managed to get a couple of promotions and was back on the same pay, just working better hours.
