Does anyone else here get bad regular insomnia?

All this year I've been getting insomnia like crazy. No matter how worn out I am from work or working out or anything I'm regularly laying in bed for hours before I can fall asleep. It's getting like every other day now. And I wake up all the time and go through it all again trying to go back to sleep. I ended up falling asleep at work yesterday because I had so much trouble falling asleep the night before. Who else gets this and what do you do for it? I don't want to be on any drugs for it but I'm wondering about anybody's personal experience with any treatment of it or whatever.

I have chronic Insomnia.. Sometimes there will go days before I can sleep. Despite being exhausted I can't get my head to understand that it needs to calm down and sleep. Sometimes it've been so bad I have to knock myself out with alcohol to get a decent nights sleep.. But I feel like absolute **** the day after...

I've tried some teas that I heard helped like chamomile (no ****) but they didn't hit the mark yet, the ones I tried. Which kind you use? Regular or something unusual?

I hear you. I can fall asleep from getting pretty blasted but I get hangovers pretty easy and the thing I run into is even though it does put me to sleep when I get really f**ked up, it'll put me out hard for a couple hours, but then I'm up to go to the bathroom and unable to go back to sleep after that. And like you usually feeling like crap when I do get up. I don't know if this happens to you guys too but I'll get sometimes some earworm sh^t happening and it's like my mind keeps the track running all night long and I go in and out with it. It's like I get hit with different kinds of insomnia. Some nights it's like the mind racing thing and I wake up constantly, other nights I wait hours to go to sleep (never been days like Grand so I'm lucky so far I guess) but when I do I'm out so hard for so long I end up getting late for work and in trouble.

I suffer from borderline severe insomnia as well.

And even when I "sleep"...I don't even really sleep. I'll doze off for an hour (at best) and wake up and have to try and get back to sleep again. I don't deep sleep anymore.

I can't remember the last time in my life where I just crashed into a deep sleep and slept without waking up for like 8 hours straight.

Yes... I had to deal with a "bad regular insomnia" since high school -- i.e. since 1972-74... Never got rid of it...

I know you said no drugs but weed always helps. Sometimes, if I want to fall asleep immediately I drink camomile tea after smoking. 1 hour and i'm Pacquiao'd.

Make sure you get enough daylight, if you work in an office open all your curtains blinders etc.

                No caffeine after 12pm.

I've had experiences with very bad insomnia due to anxiety.

                  That is quite awful.

The worst is when you are so exhausted that every time you lay down and shut your eyes you fall asleep, but you are immediately jarred awake again.

I finally realized that I think it is a result of breathing patterns. So if you can calm down your breathing, like breathing deep, holding, breathing out, you can maybe fall asleep.

The best thing though is to grab a girl and snuggle up close to her, if one can be had.

But the sort of insomnia you're talking about, I usually solve either by watching boxing, or by reading a difficult book. When I watch boxing when I'm tired, the amount of focus that it requires really makes me tired, and also I'm so focused on the boxing that I fall asleep easily. Or else, I'll read ****ens, or Marx, or [insert famous philosopher] or something on my Kindle as I'm laying in bed. Before too long, I'm ready to pass out. Sometimes I pass out while reading.

I don't have that much of an insomnia problem though, these days. I've sort of been cleaning up my act a bit. And I've taken to regular exercise again. Makes a big difference.
