[REAL TALK] Rick James needs to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! DEBATE ME

I find it crazy how the King of Funk is not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame but others are. I enjoy rap music 90s to early 2000s. I find it odd the rock and roll hall of fame are now accepting rappers but are not accepting the person who's music was sampled for one of the biggest rap song of all time.

    Lets run this down.

1982: American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Album (Street Songs)
1996: Inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame
    1 Grammy
    3 Gold Albums
2 Platinum Albums ( one of which went 4X Platinum)

    As a writer
    3 Gold Albums

Why isnt The King of Funk in the Hall!!! Debate me if you feel differently.

The Guy is an American Icon!!!! And he saved Motown from bankruptcy!!!

Huge fan of Rick, love to see the post.

Rick burned bridges with every person that ever did anything for him - he was a bad person. It makes for funny Chappelle Show skits, but very few people who were around Rick back in the day want anything to do with his music or legacy. He ripped his players off for ever penny they should have got. Combine that with the doing time for ****, and no one really wants to come out and celebrate Rick. Sad, but it is what it is.

Showtime released an EXCELLENT documentary on Rick's life a couple years back... long overdue, check it out:

I am shocked by this comment I never knew he was a "snake".

Do you genuinely think he was a bad person or was it combination of the drug abuse and his up bringing? Rick James life was hectic. He was David Ruffin 2.0

I dont think Rick James was worst than Ike Turner or Joe Jackson.

Rick was just an egomaniac - and there's good that comes with that as well as bad. It's what drove him to be a star and come up with all that great music. But he treated people badly... that's how he ended up in prison and it's why nobody has a good word to say about him all these years later.

But for me, I LOVE Rick. His music was a big part of the soundtrack to my growing up.

Rick James isn't in the Hall of Fame because him and his missus kidnapped a hoe, trapped her for days & literally tortured her.

                Habitual. Line. Stepper.

Jerry Lee Lewis was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987, he married his 13-year-old cousin in 1957 when he was 22. Infuriatingly, several other inductees have been linked to people who were too young including Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Jimmy Page whose been inducted twice, and Steven Tyler.

Chuck Berry was inducted in 1986, he was accused of having a hidden camera in a restaurant he owned that captured footage of female patrons in a room that should be private. After his home was raided, those recordings were recovered, and he wound up settling a class-action lawsuit brought by the people who were recorded.

they Inducted drug dealers and pimps too. Is it now a moral thing or music ? Where is the line drawn ?

I also think Pete Rose should be in the baseball of fame. I am on the fence for the steroids guys because I don't support cheating but in support of Barry Bonds he was a hall of famer before the drugs like Canelo, Shane Mosley and many more.

Do you guys rate Rick James as C teir or B teir when it comes to music? If Michael Jackson, James Brown, and Prince are A teir and Loniel Richie is Borderline Low A or High B. Is Rick James C teir? Maybe this is why he's not in the Hall of Fame ? You can't lie during his short peak he was the man. It's kinda hard to rank him. I think he's also lower than Babyface over all in all categories.
