I guess many people do this way, especially those who want to start selling online. Most of them create their own online shops later.
I understand that it is not easy and requires time, finances and effort. At least, there are various payment solutions, just read about them here that can make the process simple and fast. I think it also plays a big role for customers.

i did more research and it's a lot harder than i thought, selling on amazon... you have to factor in all the returns and loss items being reported by the customers... so you have to have enough funds and inventories to cover that... i shop on amazon a lot, and i have returned lots of items back and have also have items that went missing. so as a seller on amazon, you have to cover all that.
