The SNES would have been my choice as well. I loved that console.

I've always hated the Master System. The controller was one of the worst ever (almost Atari Jaguar bad!), and it had crappy licenses and NO exclusive games. I really can't think of a Master System game that took the headlines, while at the same time there were many many NES games that did.

But like I said before, the PS1 is my number one. It made gaming truely main******, and to this day, I can't think of a single console that had as many games as that machine did. Some of the indy developers that came out of the woodwork were crazy, and made some mental games. You could chip the PS1, and buy 10 games for for the price of 1 on off some guy on a rug in the city! This gave you a chance to play games you would never have played before. I has 3 different fishing games, 9 wrestling games, and 5 pool/snooker games. Obvioulsy most of them were ****, but such a choice, and so much stoned fun trying out all this crap with your mates.

And it wasn't just the volume of games, the PS1 had pure quality as well. Tekken, FFVII, Syphon Filter, Actua Soccer, Cool Boarders series, Dead or Alive, ISS Pro evolution (loved that game, and to this day I refer to Pro Evo as ISS)!! I could quote at least 100 good games for the machine. For no other console could I do that.

I could literally spout games off for the PS1 all night, it was the ultimate changer in the console business. The NES comes close, as does the SNES and 360, maybe even the Mega-Drive has an outside shout...

But the PS1 is, in my opinion the reason we are playing games like Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil etc.. And not Mario 12, Sonic 14, or Donkey Kong 7 right now.

I love Nintendo and Sega, but unfortunately Nintendo turned into a wet fart (sorry RobJr). At least Sega have a bit of a toe left in the waters arcade gaming.

NES/SNES/Megadrive/Dreamcast/360 etc.., all amazing, but the PS1 ****s on em all.

Parting shot: The wii is only for people who aren't gamers. It's for people who never grew up as a gamer. - I'm sorry, the wii is a bag of ****e, and a terrible novelty toy. I suspect my beloved Xbox will also birth a corporate monstrosity in the form of Project Natal. Good technology, will shift loads of units, but not to my taste. Give me a pad and a sofa anyday of the week.

Now, please excuse me, I'm going to wake up my flatmate to force this debate in person cos I'm bored of typing.
