Now under kickboxing I would murder him with kicks cuz he has no kicking skills, but we boxed and it was the hardest 3 rounds I've ever had in my life. I hit him alot in the body and caught him with some nice left hooks, but he was the one unloading on me, almost knocking me out twice in the third round. What is your advice for this kind of a fight? He has a real stiff jab that seemed to catch me flush whenever I tried to come inside with combinations. My only advantage was speed, in cutting the ring off to land shots and going inside and out quickly. But what do you guys suggest against this guy? He has a heck of a left jab and decent right cross. I know one thing is to duck the jab and come up with a cross to the head, which I tried in vain and got caught with a cross on my own jaw, but is there any other offensive and defensive maneuvers I could use? Please dont tell me that my strategy is to not fight this guy, cuz I know its a hard fight for me and my coach said I showed heart, so I dont care to take on tough guys, but I want to do better if I fight him next time. And lemme tell you, he had respect for me afterwards cuz we had a brawl, even though my punches glanced off his cheeks and he rocked me bad.
First, why did you alter my post in your quote? (from the outside ) And what is meant by the change? What were you trying to say?

With this guy that is kicking your ***, thank him for the work and then tell him that you look forward to seeing him tomorrow to do it all again.

In between, when you lay down to sleep, roll through the sparring session in your mind. See him doing something and then see yourself countering the shot. Just let it continue to roll through your mind until you fall a sleep. The next day, do the same thing on the occurences of the last sparring session.

Ducking his jab and then throwing your right hand is slow. Have you learned to slip yet?

Do you have a trainer and how long have you been boxing?

How good will you get if you only spar guys that are not as good as you? How will you get better.

Take the hard work every chance you get. .............Rockin'

About 6'3" 230. I kept ducking forward and getting clipped behind the ear. Don't do that

I'm 5'9" tall and 168 pounds back then. I sparred with a guy who was 5'7" and 143 pounds. I didn't know he was post champ the year before. Fighting him was like fighting 3 people. He hit me when he felt like it. I pissed him off by landing a good left hook to the body. You know how in cartoons someone gets hit and they see stars. That is real. We were wearing headgear. He hit me with a right I never saw coming. The coach stepped in. To this day I still don't know what happen.
          Rockin' Rockin' likes this.

I sparred a guy who was like, maybe 5’9” and 250 plus pounds. Didn’t feel the full force of his punches though cuz he was already in there for 1 or 2 rounds prior.

Lately, I’ve been sparring a 16 yr old 205 pound kid. Might be 6 feet.

He’s a counter puncher. Real quick for his size. Quick explosive movements. Good head movement. He doesn’t like a lot of contact. I just go inside to the body on him to tire him out. Usually works, but I have to be careful on the way in. If I can last the early goings without getting clipped too much, I can usually get the better of him, but that’s 200 plus pounds of a young gun coming at you. Can’t get caught too much.

I have seen Kali footwork work very effectively in boxing to help people get around to a fighters blind side

I think in 20 years a lot of good fighters will use a lot more unorthodox/less traditional boxing methods - look at Lomachencko as a prime example at the moment
Thats a great observation about Kali. Traditional South East Asian Arts, that still have footwork are wonderful to work with... Entering in with the triangle means you always have one piercing point out of three, and the balance that the other two points create. kali footwork is great to enter with, I find it one of the better solutions regarding how to control the space between you and the opponent.

I once sparred a guy four foot one and 300 pounds. When the ref wasn't looking I high stepped on his head and just threw hooks under my leg!
