3-5 cups a day is recomended, extra energy antioxydants etc.
studies say that coffe is a lot healthier than we thought it were, so enjoy your coffe.
careful with advice like that leff. 3-5 cups daily is in no way recommended, except maybe by Maxwell House.
There are studies that show possible benefits, but for an athlete, it's probably better to avoid it. I'm not saying it's bad at all, just that I haven't read a single publication that RECOMMENDS that you drink coffee, and considering how much a boxer must watch his diet, I wouldn't have a whole lot, personally I don't drink any at all.
And what is the source of this 'extra energy'? And if antioxidants are such a concern to you, eat an orange...
Antioxidants aren't really all so wonderful anyways, I can promise you that everyone who guzzles down liters of green tea for all those wonder-antioxidants doesn't even know what they do, or what antioxidant even means...
I'm not coming at you at all (Leff), just giving my 2 cents
The only reason I'd see not to drink Black coffee in that quantity is the fact that it's a diuretic so you'd have to drink more water to avoid dehydration.
my understanding of coffee is that it causes insulin spikes that in turn encourages your body to store more fat.. tea's a lot better if you like it..
That's ridiculous.
Sometimes I think the internet should be seriously filtered. Also there's something called genetics. Where people store fat is directly dependent on their gene history and that accounts for most body types.
Floyd Mayweather Jr eats bag of chips after cracker after candy bar daily. Doesn't make a bit of difference because of how hard he works to burn the calories off......and he's just genetically muscular and toned like his Father.
He could sit on the couch all day long and eat spaghetti and have the same exact BFP he does now. That's just the way he was created.

it often seems that americans aint fully uppdated on nutriton.

Hmm.. i don't know much about anti-oxidants and all that jazz... but as for the source of caffiene as an energy...
my work mate, he's a top class half marathon runner - he runs for his county and wins or is top 5 in nearly all the races he's been since i've known him. He says that a lot of runners would drink extremely strong cups of coffee before racing i.e 6 tea spoons of coffee, one sugar and a little water. Neck the liquid fast for an energy boost which would make them abound for the race.
This was so frequent that now they are tested for excess caffiene, and it is a banned substance apparently. Obviously, small amount are allowed but very large amounts are grounds for penalisation.
... i'm sure i could find the legislation somewhere on the net.
So... i guess caffiene could get you an edge on competition day.
