Freitas had a good run and had a fan base. I don't remember ever being mentioned for Floyd or Hamed. It would had been a good match up at the time. He was fun to watch but like any other fighter once he started to step up in competition he wasn't KOing fighters that easily. Casamayor gave him major issues and so did Raheem, he had difficulty with boxers.

He was the counter puncher type that benefitted of the offense of the other fighter.

One thing I recall about Popo Frietas was he was very fast twitch, athletic and a dangerous puncher

Yep, Freitas was elite for about 15 minutes but dropped off too quick to even have a shot at greatness. It was fun to watch while it lasted, though.

One would think Brazil, so populous and with so many poor kids who would want to fight their way out of poverty, should produce more world-class boxers.
Do they and am I just unaware? Because it doesn't seem that way. Yeah I get that MMA is huge in Brazil but that's relatively recent, in historical terms.

Yes! The Hyena, that was a fun fight. At that time Acelino was at Showtime and everyone else was at HBO.
