Will Edgar Berlanga be the new George Kambosos Jr.?

Granted, GKJ did beat Teofimo so that says a lot more than Edgar, though other than that win, GKJ hasn't done shieeeeet. Yet he's remained relevant and collected big checks since that win. Is Edgar on that same path? Granted maybe even worse if he can't win a title. Yet somehow he got popular and remains a "name" figure in boxing despite accomplishing jack ****, lol. The fact that Munguia would even call him out speaks to his popularity. Munguia has done more, yet would probably get his next biggest check to Canelo by facing Edgar. Crazy.

The date with Canelo wasn’t just money for that night, it was destined to provide at least a couple more decent paydays for Berlanga. The exposure he got was worth quite a bit. Case in point — Munguia.

Yeah, but like... I don't want to see George lose, no matter how basic he is. Edgar, on the other hand...

        Kambosos has three good wins.

He was supposed to lose to Mickey Bey. Bey was a former IBF lightweight champion and he was the American A-side fighting in the US. Kambosos was his cherry picked comeback opponent and Kambosos got the W.

Then he was supposed to lose to Lee Selby, a former featherweight world titlist. He was the British A-side fighting in the UK, and once again, Kambosos was supposed to be his route to another title shot. Kambosos beat him.

That's how Kambosos got the Lopez fight in the first place. He didn't just materialize in a mandatory position out of nowhere. The Lopez fight was his third straight fight as a road B-side fighting against a former/current world titlist and he won all three fights to become the unified, lineal lightweight champion of the world.

To compare him to the likes of Edgar Berlanga is ignorant and disrespectful. It's true that Kambosos has been beaten repeatedly and easily since then, but it doesn't change or diminish what he accomplished. Berlanga doesn't even have one quality win to his name and has accomplished nothing in the sport.

George has actually achieved something in the sport… the way Berlanga and his cronies have praised his canelo effort is embarrassing for everyone, what sort of competitor is proud of losing in a landslide

Fair points on GKJ. I suppose I was ignoring the wins prior to Lopez and was focusing more on his career post Lopez. That which wasn't impressive. That said, GKJ has done more to earn his continued paychecks, despite not doing well. Edgar on the other hand, he talked his way into a Canelo fight. Somehow has a big following despite accomplishing nothing and we'll see. I think if he's finally KO'd, people will drop him quickly. Maybe Munguia could be the guy to do it. I think he's a bit more reckless than Canelo to get the KO. If Edgar in return ended up KOing Munguia, then I'd give him a bit more respect.

Kambosos can last 12 rounds consistently.

Berlanga would likely get KO’ed more times than not. He lucked out with Canelo because Canelo is naturally small for 168. I get that he can’t make 160 anymore, but that doesn’t make him a legit 168 pounder. Canelo is likely somewhere in between, 164lbs maybe is a more natural weight and a weight he can likely get KO’s again.

But my point is Berlanga likely gets KO’ed by the other top natural 168 pounders.
