    Kiko Martinez interview (spanish)

    youtube.com/watch?v=MvXHiqXxaDU

Here you have an interview from a local tv that will help to know more about Kiko's life from being child up to nowadays. The interview was done after the 2nd loss against Frampton.

Sorry but it has no subtitles and it's in spanish. If anybody is interested, I could do a resume.

      There you go:

      - He has two brothers and two sisters.
      - He thanks his parents for raising them well and working many, many hours. Especially his father, who had always had mobility problems, and lately lost the leg.
      - No one in the family used to box.
      - He left school at 16. He was a bit lazy but never behaved bad at school.
      - He used to play football (soccer, just in case), but asked his mom to buy him some gloves at the age of 10-11. At 13 he left football.
      - He wanted to take up boxing classes but there was no money in the family and they were a bit concerned about its risks. He wanted it so bad, cried all day but finally his dad agreed to do it if he promised him that unlike his brothers he'd archieve something instead of giving up at 6 months, wasting that very little money they had. He didn't fail him.
      - When he started he was the youngest in the gym and it was really tough. At 13 he fought 20's guys and got hurt, went home crying. But he couldn't give up.
      - He had his first fight at 14, winning a local title. He remembered telling his mom that his trainer reminded him he was made for this, but she thought otherwise, claiming his trainer only cared about his money. After bringing home the trophy they all turned very happy.
      - He had to work at 15-16 anywhere in order to buy his equipment.
      - He has a girlfriend and a daughter.
      - He first saw Sergio (Maravilla) Martnez at 16 training in the gym, when he was unknown, even for him. His trainer told him he was really, really good and he became stunned while watching him. He then established a good relationship with him and was hoping to get an offer from his promotion company.
-After fighting without any contract, even breaking up with his trainer, he dealt with his career on his own, receiving many offers from other countries but they were all declined as he was waiting for Maravilla's call. It arrived and was delighted with it, he admired Maravilla a lot.
      - Sergio was the only one who believed in him, even after he lost the european belt to Munroe, when he wanted to leave the sport. He went on a big event in Argentina and won by KO.
      - Then he had the chance to fight for a title fight in the US. They were in a rush as it would happen in just 6 weeks. He had left everything to get this to happen, even his pregnant girlfriend, training away from home and after getting the call he quickly flew to LA with Pablo. It was a now or never situation and would retire if he lost.
      - He won against Romero and became world champion. That was his dream, it was his last chance and it was much more than just a belt.
      - He came back home to celebrate and his baby daughter didn't recognize him.
      - Lately, he lost to Frampton... but he gives everyone his word that he'll take the belt back.

He is really humble and likeable. I am really hoping him to win against Quigg.

That's it, thank you for doing the job.

I have checked some old news, and he signed the contract with Maravilla in August of 2012, that was 6 months earlier to the 1st Frampton fight, and he had the EBU at the time.

I guess it's typical in the boxing surroundings, but he comes from a poor family, and didn't have an easy childhood. Not very literate, but smart and he seems to be a nice person. As Josh Homme said, he looks humble and likeable.
