Right I think its time for me to explain why I was so happy to see Matthews get a hiding on Saturday...

My first memory of Derry Matthews was when he was on some undercard on ITV fighting Stephen Foster Jnr. ITV didn't show the whole fight, but when coverage started Foster's face was a mess and the commentators were saying how Matthews had been beating the **** out of him. Watching that fight though, I wasn't impressed. His punches were powderpuff and his dirty tactics were already evident, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited for his next fight to make my mind up on him.

That next fight was against John Simpson. To put it bluntly ITVs coverage of that fight was a disgrace. Not only did they hype up Matthews to make out he was the next De La Hoya they also showed definate bias during the fight. I still argue to that day that John Simpson was robbed in that fight. I can't remember exactly, but I think I scored about 5 rounds for Simpson. Those rounds and the fact Matthews was docked 2 points and got knocked down meant that the score cards were a farce. (check boxrec for scores) The fact that the fight was a robbery was only half the story. Matthews implemented some of the dirtiest tactics I have ever seen in that fight. He was elbowing, butting, clinching etc all fight and should have been dq without doubt. I now was officaly president of the Derry Matthews is a fraud society.

Over the next year Matthews continued to win with ITV stringing the general public along. I'm sure most boxing fans could see Matthews was British level at best and bound to catch a hiding soon. That beating came last saturday and I ****ing loved it. I hope John Simpson can get a rematch because the way he was treated that night in Liverpool was a complete and utter disgrace.

I apologise to any Matthews fans. I am a big supporter of British fighters, but not this one.

Same here i saw the Simpson fight. Matthews should have been DQ, I was happy after Matthews got knocked the **** out.

Matthews should be deported to Amercia for quitting like he did. All he did was take a few comedy haymakers from a four foot tall goat herder and he was in ribbons. The body shots that finished him were just regulation shots. I'm thinking he must have American parentage for him to quit like that.

the idea of this fight was for choi to enforce power so it didnt matter how good he looked.true he is wild but thats the way he likes it.the only 2 losses hes had in the uk was to willie limond whos a lightweight and was out on his feet at one point during his fight with choi.next was lehona lebwada a multi world champion who went in with pacquio and that fight was split.he also fought veerapol sarapon who was a multi champ from thailand and a fight for the paba championship.and in those 2 events he was only in his second and third fight as a pro.he hits hard and stops alot of fighters.very unorthadox and fears no man so i would say that hes in the top ten feathers in the world.
boxrec now have him rated at number 5.british boxing have him as number one .its amazing cos hes been here nearly eight years and should have been on tv alot more and if someone like warren would have took notice earlier he would have been a champ a long time ago.the thing is theres 2 mongolians boxing out of manchester.the other is shinny bayaar whos smoked both his signings,reider walstead and a guy called kooner.maybe now we can get to see more now chois exposed matthews as british level.
you need to have a real good chin when competing at the highest level and i think although he may get outboxed his chin is superb.
im only too glad i was able to help bring these guys to the uk but its come a bit late in the day unfortunately.
but good luck to mathews hes 13 years chois junior so has time to learn and come back.
