I think anyone who has watched him comprehensively........and thought that he didn't have excellent boxing ability is clueless!

Yes it's unfortunatethat so many people fail to recognize that empsey was probably the most skilled heavyweight in history. Speed,power,defense, intelligence. If a fighter like Frazier rushed Dempsey, it would have been lights out for Frazier.

He was certainly up there on the skill front. His skills in closing the distance, head movement and finding openings are in many ways as impressive as the defensive skills of an Ali or Walcott.

Cox is right the Willard and Firpo fight is the one that people go by while stating otherwise. Its not that. Jack Dempsey could box...and box well...Gene Tunney, Gibbons were excellent boxers. Jack outboxed Gibbons who was one of the best pure boxers of all time. He was very skilled and ATg great anyway you cut it.
