In Your Opinion, how many members of the 1980 U.S. Olympic team would have won gold?

The 1980 U.S. Olympic team couldn't compete because of President Carter's boycott. Had they competed, how many members would have won gold?

    U.S. Olympic Boxing Teams

    1904 | 1908 | 1924 | 1928 | 1932 | 1936 | 1948 | 1952 | 1956 | 1960 | 1964 | 1968 | 1972 | 1976 | 1980 | 1984 | 1988 | 1992 | 1996 | 2000 | 2004 | 2008

    1980 -- Moscow, USSR
    USA did not participate

    106: Robert Shannon, Edmonds, Wash.
    112: Richard Sandoval, Pomona, Calif.
    119: Jackie Beard, Jackson, Tenn.
    125: Bernard Taylor, Charlotte, N.C.
    132: Joe Manley, Army
    139: Johnny Bumphus, Nashville, Tenn.
157: Donald Curry, Fort Worth, Texas
    156: James Shuler, Philadelphia, Pa.
    165: Charles Carter, Yakima, Wash.
    178: Leroy Murphy, Chicago, Ill.
    +178: James Broad, Army

IMO, I believe Curry, Bumphus, Beard and Sandoval would have won gold. Taylor, Manley and Shuler would have medaled, and Broad would have been destroyed by Teofilio Stevenson.

Hard to imagine Curry not being able to win a gold medal.I believe he was the very best at that weight class before turning pro.He was one of the few Americans that had enough Amateur experience to rival those within the communist nations

I could possibly see Sandoval, Beard, Taylor, Bumphus, Curry, and Shuler probably winning the gold. Murphy, Shannon, and Broad would've medaled, and personally, don't see Broad getting knocked out by Stevenson, just decisioned.Ironically, it may have been Tony Tucker in Murphy's place if he had not lost to Alex DeLucia in the Western Olympic Trial finals.

If Tucker had that spot, he could have won gold if the U.S. didn't boycott. Broad knocked little Marvis into dream street

Olympics or no, ultimately a fairly forgettable squad with the possible exception of Curry.

He sure did.And Marvin was lucky that Greg Page had turned pro a year earlier, and Tony Tubbs boycotted the trials.

It's hard for me to say who would, but alot of these guys were better amateurs than they were pros.
