Years ago, I read a story about a boxer who was in the audience for a fight and was asked at to replace a boxer at the last minute. He went back, got in some trunks and gloves, and eventually went out and boxed. He won and actually won a belt. I can't find the name of the boxer or the year this happened. Does anyone recall this or know what I'm referring to?

I've heard of this happening once with a HW fight but the guy got blasted out as expected so definitely not the example you're talking about.

How long ago did it happen? Did this happen in America? I can't see a commission approving this.
I feel like it was in the 70s or 80s. And yeah, the point of the article I was reading was how the particular commission lost its credibility due to stuff like this. I'm working on an piece about the commissions and was trying to track down this particular colorful story.
