Ha ha well I could point out that the term 'mainstream media' is a term predominantly used by folk of pronounced political leanings - both left and right - to mean the media that doesn't affirm their own beliefs.. That kinda means it's implicit in the use of the term that they consider it biased and untrustworthy so it's pretty much a value free observation.

There have been some more or less useful efforts to use statistical methods to establish both the level of bias and level of accuracy in various news sources which I could share - and critique - if you're interested, but I tend to find most folk who talk about bias in the mainstream also tend to dismiss any evidence to the contrary as simply more evidence of bias so...

So is that considered a derogatory term? I didn't realize and it wasn't meant as such. Was more intended as opposed to independent media. Unless we check online, it can be hard to tell what to trust.

Well for sure, I wasn't quite sure what angle you were coming from but I didn't want to presume, but most of the time when you see 'mainstream media' used these days it is as a pejorative... usually dismissively coming from the right though I'm old enough to recall when the same accusations usually came from the left.

And yeah definitely, the simple volume of crap out there makes it hard to know what to trust and how much, specially when everyone got an angle... even the ones who genuinely believe what they're saying.

I applaud accidents like this
