What is 'antifa'?

Curious to gather opinions on this cos the term seems to be understood in many different ways, with some describing it as an 'organisation' - or even a '********* organisation' and others understanding it more as an umbrella term for a movement, like for instance the antiwar movement, or feminism.

I'm wondering what different people her believe 'antifa' to mean, and what sources they used to arrive at this conclusion. Has anyone actually studied this group, or perhaps have sympathies or personal involvement?

It's a truism, but not a bad one I reckon, that no-one thinks of themselves as the 'bad guys', in the light of this it's reasonable to assume that those identifying as or classified as 'antifa' genuinely believe their actions are in some way beneficial to the world or society.

I'm curious to know if anyone can inform me of the philosophies or ideas that underlie this movement... whilst I have some ideas of my own I'm curious to know if anyone else has thought about what motivates these groups or individuals to put themselves at personal risk in the name of their cause.

I don't live near no city, never have, just seems like crazy ass big city folk to me. Bunch of **** they do is silly. Y'all ever heard of a farm land riot? Yeah....us neither. Actually a lot of 'em do exactly that, it's most common for these kinda activist to be involved in other community work as well as a range of other protest activities, like environmental stuff or whatever. ... often as not you got these same folk running soup kitchens or helping out with outreach or drug programs. Folk who believe they have a duty or responsibility to help those around them. Damn busybody do-gooder bleeding hearts...

EDIT: Though I would add to that that in my experience there's a high turnover of spoiled kids come in and fuck around for a year or two... it's usually the minority who stick with it and find a calling that become your real commited community and social activists rather than the fly by night students or whatever who are there for a season or so cos it's cool.

My personal philosophy is to believe what I see and not necessarily what I'm told. So I'd say that the dictionary definition doesn't portray the reality of ANTIFA.

Fascism is wrong. Props to those who oppose it.
