You got some really good feedback on this, but hitting the junk yard like you said, I think would do it.
I have a couple in my area. Pay like..$1 to go in and pull your own parts.
I'd think you'd have to find something compatible somewhere in there...., right ?
(I know it's a pain sometimes to go searching in the junk yard)

The Parts Dept at a dealership might be able to help.

Unless it's a motor they no longer service, they should be able to identify every part on it.

I lived in DR for a couple of years...I know how hard it is to get parts in the Islands. I still own a dis-assembled Yamaha down there.

So a simple solution would be to drill a couple of small holes through the plastic and use a couple of wood screws to secure the cover. You make the top hole a little larger so that the screws cut grooves only at the bottom. Problem solved.

Ahh I thought of this but instead of using screws maybe some good ole tie wraps can do the trick.

Wanted to green K this Jade: There are actually many things one can do to fix this. and this line of action keeps many cars on the road! Take it from a former Air cooled VW Bus owner! And we didn't even have zip ties back then!!! It was duct tape and a prayer.

Personally I would have probably grabbed for the zip ties about now, same concept, tighten as needed in the holes.

Will be very hard to find parts for a 2001 Chevy Impala but you never kow.
