I hope Bud can pull it off. In terms of Canelo fighting Benavidez, it will never happen. If he wanted to fight him, he would have done it by now. The older Canelo gets, the less risk he will take and Benavidez is waaaaay too much risk.

Canelo can't KO Mungia or Berlanga or Ryder or Charlo. They all are decent at best. He isn't stopping a ten pound lighter Crawford who has twice the boxing IQ that Canelo has and whose power will somewhat carry and keep Canelo honest.

Madrimov's entire plan was to keep Bud from landing anything big with awkwardness and feints. It worked in that he didn't get stopped, but he lost the fight.

Canelo likely will believe he can walk through Bud. I will not be surprised if Canelo gets hurt and possibly dropped in the fight. And he will gas around the 6th or 7th and Crawford will give him a boxing lesson. It will really depend on the judges and Canelohype. I could see a robbery for Saul.

Crawford could not stop, drop, or even hurt a 154 Armature Madrimov. Canelo Stopped BJS, Plant, drop Ryder, Mungia, Berlange, true 168.
Crawford go wobbled by 130 Gamboa and Mean machine, Canelo has never been hurt or drop since he was like 20.
Crawford will be on his bike all night, once he feels the counters from Canelo.

Canelo did duck Benavides, but Benavidez loses to Betervbiev.

Some numbers to provide a little context to the debate...

I would rather he weigh in closer to 160. I don't really think he understands how much that extra weight is going to slow him down across 12.

His power is VERY unlikely to carry up to 168 enough to hurt the adamantium-chinned Canelo, who's taken clean shots from bigger punchers than Bud, and Bud wasn't able to hurt Madrimov, who's smaller than Canelo. So this one would have to be won on points.

Now the next thing that we know is that in order to beat Canelo, you need to seriously outwork him. Bivol threw over 700 punches, had nearly double the connects, but still only got 115-113 cards. Floyd threw only 505, but connected at a 46% rate, while holding Canelo to 22%. Canelo regularly averages over 550 a fight. Bud averages in the low 400 range over his last several fights. He's even more economical than Canelo, and that's fighting guys without the punching power of Canelo. So he's going to have to be on his bike for 12, carrying more weight and taking heavier punches, but he's going to have to up his output by at least 20 percent. And he's effectively up 3 divisions, and against a guy who's likely to be up by 3 rounds before the fight even starts. Canelo is used to fighting guys with a reach advantage AND a weight advantage, and is able to bully them anyways. And Crawford gets hit. Madrimov landed on him at 30.5% rate while holding him to 21.9%. Spence landed 20%, and 34.2% of his power punches, while getting his career ending beatdown. Even Avanesyan landed 22.4% of his power punches. Porter landed 26.5% of his power punches. Canelo landed close to 30% of his power punches vs Mayweather and Bivol, and usually lands closer to 50% of his power punches (40% vs Charlo, who was in survival mode the whole fight).

So the numbers indicate this is a very tall order for Bud, that should certainly put him in the history books if he can win. You can talk all you want about styles and skills, but Bud, as it stands, doesn't throw enough punches to outwork Canelo, and you can outwork Canelo and still lose to him if it's a small margin (see Erislandy Lara), because he's going to be coming forward, driving the action, and landing the more impactful shots. And Canelo has never even been knocked down, while Bud probably should have a knockdown from Mean Machine on his record. So he's very unlikely to hurt Canelo, while he's been hurt himself by a welterweight.

If he's going to do it, he'll have to do it behind a VERY active jab, on the back foot, as a southpaw. I'd prefer him to come in lighter than he did vs Madrimov (he was 169.8 on fight night, outweighing Madrimov) so he can have the foot speed and stamina to stay away from Canelo while pot-shotting every time Canelo isn't working. Canelo was weighing in at 172-4 when he was at 154. These days, he'll be in the 180's on fight night. Charlo was 172 and we saw what happened to him.

                The typical response without context.

The people that criticize Canelo didn’t start their criticism with the Crawford fight. It goes back a few years when Canelo SPECIFICALLY chose to fight guys like Munguia, Charlo, Ryder and Berlanga while Benavidez was his mandatory and the number 1 guy at 168. I’m guessing you didn’t know all those facts?

Had Canelo fought Benavidez and beat him, no one would say sht about the Crawford fight.

Truer words have never been spoken. At least Benavidez is willing to fight Beterbiev and everyone else.

I’m going to try not to sound condescending. Canelo has never been dropped by much bigger guys than Crawford even when he was outboxed by a pure boxer in Erislandy Lara, who just happens to be a southpaw and you believe Crawford will hurt and drop Canelo?

Canelo has openly and unabashedly ducked Benavidez. That’s pretty obvious to any knowledgeable boxing fan. However, that does not mean Canelo is some nondescript guy that Crawford will just walk through.

Crawford is getting stopped. The same exact way Khan was stopped. A monster right hand will catch Crawford. Of course, like Khan, he will look great in the first few rounds. Mark my words, the end is nigh.
