No one doubts that De Gale has got the talent. Indeed, he practically oozes the stuff.

The PROBLEM is his attitude. I was thoroughly appalled by his total lack of professionalism in the Groves fight. He had the bout for the taking. His superior speed and reflexes meant that he could catch Groves practically whenever he chose.

Unfortunately he seemed too concerned with pouting, showing off for the cameras & taking it easy whenever it suited him.

Fighting isn't just about having the skills to beat your opponent. Indeed, it's as much about your mentality as anything else.

You have to want to win with every bone in your body. You've got to be willing to do whatever it takes. Bear any burden ... and so forth. Additionally you also need to be sufficiently intelligent and perceptive to understand how the fight is APPEARING to the judges. This is often a challenge for fighters since their over-inflated egos prevent them from seeing every round as anything other than a victory for them.

Dirrell will be a tough fight for De Gale. He's awkward, skillful and hard to beat. If De Gale doesn't have his head screwed on tight he'll be beaten - perhaps even in an embarrassing fashion.

I really do hope De Gale sorts himself out. Nothing annoys me more in sport than seeing good talent wasted.

I don't think he's underrated in our side of the pond, most of us know he's probably the best SMW right now in Britain but the Americans are about to find out too soon.

I have been a fan of DeGale since he turned pro, but I think Dirrell is a matchup nightmare for him. The only question mark being, how much does Dirrell have left?

I would much rather see DeGale in with the likes of Froch, Steiglitz, Sturm, Groves etc. He beats them all.

Alas, my money is on Dirrell w/points (2/1).

He's said he wants Golovkin, Ward etc the biggest names that people think are unbeatable, Cant wait to see Degale vs Golovkin/Ward/Kovalev. This guy is going to show the world his talent over the next few years, Groves would be KO5 if they ever have a rematch(even Froch said the two are incomparable at the moment)
          great post... agree 100%

theres a chance degales feeling wierd from bright lights big city and not being treated like a madonna like he is back home.
that and fighting someone on a higher level.

is this going to be like a marco barrera/naseem hamed???

War Degale era about to start
I won't go as far as you, he won't wipe out Dirrell, although he has the physical attributes to do so, he is not that type of fighter. I think he beats dirrell, barring any controversial scoring.

DeG v GGG is intriguing because James is very good with his lateral movement when he wants to and can throw quick punches in combinations without taking too much back. He could possibly eek out a points win.

It was widely reported that The Prince was not at his best the night he fought Berrera in Vegas. I believe DeGale will be coming into this fight at the peak of his powers and if there was ever a time he could beat Dirrell, it will be tonight.

However, I don't see it happening. Chunky performs best fighting off the back-foot, slipping, blocking and countering. Dirrell isn't going to allow that and I have a feeling DeGale is going to be left following his man around the ring all night eating jabs.

Impressed by both fighters tonight. Going over to America and beating a man of Dirrell's level, wow, what a wonderful night for British boxing. Wonderful story as well. Degale didn't represent himself well early on in his career, I was ****-a-hoop when Groves humbled him - narrowly - but was genuinely rooting for the fella tonight. Been a while since a fight had me so tense! It really delivered, it was boxing at its best. Lost a few quid because I had James by KO but who cares?! God I love boxing on nights like tonight.
