They also use a different calendar with 13 months and so the year is about 8 behind ours. No night buses, or there wasn't as everything starts after 6am, so you have to incorporate long day-journeys into your travelling plans.

If you do it independently things can take a while to set up, though that makes it more fun. Each part of the country is very different - jungle south, mountains north and desert east. I had two things I wanted to visit and the rest was a bonus, so plenty of surprises.
