Have you ever moved out of home state or country?

Has anyone ever moved out of their home state or country? If so to where and why? Did it work out for the best?

I grew up in NYC. Went into military and eventually got assigned to California, then South Korea and finally Massachusetts. Few deployments overseas. My next move will either be Maine, NH or possibly SC. Getting out of NYC was the best thing I ever did.

Packed up all my stuff and moved from Oklahoma to Arizona in 2020.

Four years later I've made a bunch of records, made tons of new friends, got married, about to have our first child.

Best thing I ever did for myself.

I grew up in Montreal, moved to The Dominican Republic for a couple of years, and then settled here in Vancouver 33 yeas ago next month. I moved for the lifestyle change. It worked out very well for me, but it did take a very long time. It was always OK more or less, but it took about 25 years before I was able to say it worked out very well. I've been to both Maine and New Hampshire. I found it a bit sleepy for my taste, but I was young then and was used to the urban life of Montreal. Maybe today it might suit me, and it's less expensive to live there, but I don't like cold winters, so there’s that. I've never been to SC, but it sounds more to my liking, especially on the coast. I've now lived the 2nd half of my life right on the beach, and I would never want to give that up, and the winters are doable. Uprooting is a very big undertaking...it takes a long time to re-root and feel grounded. As you get older, it becomes harder to replace the friends you leave behind.

Past a certain age old friends drop like flies anyway. I like roots. I like where roots were. No real need to move unless you are in a bad place. Bored? Travel. That is the easiest solution. Easier than moving.

Lol moved all over the place. Spent most adult life in San Francisco. Grew up in New York. Lived in Baltimore many years. Lived in Louisiana, Toronto, quite a few places lol.

We just moved a few years back to Idaho from San Francisco.

Always consider myself a New Yorker. My wife is Cajun so it's really kind of funny we are opposites the way we grew up. I don't know what to say... I love cities I love rural areas not too crazy about the burbs. one can measure a civilization by its great cities.

I really want to see Montreal. Vancouver was a wonderful city to visit. Toronto was interesting to live in.

You can take the New Yorker out of the city, but you can never take the city out of the New Yorker. I still think I'm funny because when you and I were growing up in NYC what is it that every adult would say to us when we would piss them off?

"Hey kid what do you think you are a f****** comedian?"

Like you I joined the military and ended up on the DMZ in S.Korea. Lived on the east coast (DC & Philly) for a few years after getting out of the Army, then ended up back in Cali. Maine & NH along with Mass. are really nice in the summer but the winters are brutal, that's why I left the east coast.
