Why people still support the likes of Eddie Hearn

Dude's a boxing promoter, being a lying slippery mfer goes with the job description I think. He's no better or worse than the other guys in the game far as I can tell... they're all parasitic flesh traders, but the successful ones also earn their fighters better money than they can get elsewhere so it ain't like it's a purely negative thing from the fighters' point of view. I don't understand folk who support promoters whether it's Hearn or Haymon, Arum or Oscar... all doing the same damn thing and if you think different it probably gives more insight into your own biases and prejudices than it does into the workings of the real world.

I think you're just completely ignorant of the Hearn/AJ relationship. It has been made clear many many times that AJ calls his own shots. He has his own company AJBXNG and he manages fighters like Cordina, Okolie, Buatsi and Cissokho.

He's fighting under the banner of Matchroom.

And who gives a f#ck who he manages? Maybe that'll turn into something at some point, but the big money right now is in the Joshua business.

If they weren't happy then they wouldn't sign their contracts. I don't know why you are so angry and looking at their pockets, Canelo and AJ are the biggest earners in the sport and you are angry at their promoters for some reason

Where am I expressing angry at Eddie or Oscar or any promoter necessarily? I'm just saying Joshua is throwing away money not paying Eddie or whoever promotes his fights a fee & having a fight by fight deal vs a long term contract.

Without their promoters they wouldn't be in their positions and they wouldn't have the access to their current network deals.

To some extent I agree with this, but the loyalty fighters have to promoters is seldom matched by promoters towards as fighters enter the backside of their careers. I think boxers should be more forward thinking with how they operate when they become a brand themselves. And Joshua is a bigger brand then Matchroom these days.

These big name boxers aren't taking their max upside in the limited time they have in the game. Thats all I'm saying. The specific boxers & the specific promoters don't really matter.

Hearn really helped to bring boxing back to the mainstream in the UK.

I was a fan through the 2000s, after Lennox retired, UK boxing had about 10 REALLY lean years.

Frank was really behind the times with the way he promoted, it was like he was stuck in the 80s as the social media generation was starting to come through.

Eddie and Sky combined to create a lot of stars and quality events, they also branched out successfully and got casuals talking about boxing, consistently and not just once in a blue moon for a big fight.

It's sad Eddie sold out to DAZN and is now just as cynical as any other promotor because when matchroom was in its aggressive growth phase and a disruptor in a stale British boxing scene it was great for British boxing.

Can't agree with the OP. Sure, I initially hated Hearn in the beginning, but it was because the social media click baits worked. There was a lot of negativity spread around, especially between folks on the Queensbury side and then Matchroom to create conflict between the two promoters and in the end, getting them to say nasty things about each other because of what they heard someone said about the other on the social media clips. Once they realized, it was just fuel being added to get both of them to say nasty things about each other and squashed the beef, you can see that they're both generally nice towards each other.

I know this didn't have to do anything about Queensbury, but I brought that up because it's how things start and create an image of how you see someone without really knowing them. The more I watched Hearns in interviews and during the promotions at the press, the more you can see his true persona and understand what kind of person he is. I respect his love for the fight game and honest takes when asked about what he thinks of a matchup/fighter/situation.

I also hated how he only had AJ in the beginning and he was using him as the money maker, but it made sense. AJ was his biggest draw and if he required more funds to then acquire additional fighters under his stable, I suppose it worked.

Anyways, I just don't think he is all the bad rep he received in the past, especially nowadays. He's matured as a promoter and come a long ways.
