Great article. It explains why and how many people in the industry claim you cannot be an elite athlete (not just a boxer) without PEDs. I was told this many years ago by someone involved with elite athletes and they swore to me that you cannot make it to an Olympic 100 sprint final without taking something. Not possible.

Obviously nobody knows if this is 100% true, but if doctor's are freely offering advice on how to beat drug testing you can see clearly how someone like lance Armstrong can win 7 Tours De France back to back, be tested 100 times and never be found guilty through a drug test.

If you are fighter it would be impossible to ignore drugs if doctors claim 90% of your competitors are taking something and have an advantage over you. I suspect there is no way of putting this Gennie back in the bottle.

It's surprising they're being investigated as there's relatively little scrutiny of PED use in Oro boxing. What hasn't surprising is the possibility that Crawford's team might be involved, given he's supposedly due to fight at 168 against a proven ped user in September!

Well, you forgot the #1 enablers of all this.

          The fans.

Just look at how many fans make excuses for Canelo or Ryan Garcia.

It's always a "mistake" or "tainted beef" or "somebody put something in their Shamrock Shake", when it's somebody they like.

If you're an athlete you're responsible for everything you eat, drink, & ingest.

Anybody who tests positive for any PED should immediately be suspended for 2 years, the 2nd time 4 years, and the 3rd time, for LIFE

And if they're found to have fought an opponent while doping, they should be subject to legal penalties.

These clowns at BOXINGSCENE , including that old fat ex writer Keith idec would always be praising manny pacquiao in his prime , calling him possibly the best ever when he was moving up in weight class while retaining his punching power. They never questioned how a flyweight was able to move up all the way to super welterweight smh and maintained power. That doesn’t happen naturally. And then he was refusing random drug testing and his excuse was that he was “scared of needles” . But meanwhile had tattoos in his body. And now they wanna write an article about ped usage in boxing rofl hypocrite clowns

Becoming an elite, boxing super star is like hitting the lottery and if there is a path of least resistance to attain that once in a life time, life changing, mega money, then of course fighters are going to take that chance.

Simply put, there's too much money on the line to not be on steroids or PEDs of any kind.

Just a thought but maybe if boxing was structured by a strong, national commission, where everyone was paid fairly, the fighters wouldn't have to resort to such extremes and perhaps the shady practices would finally be discouraged and die off.

His Excellency Turki has the financial backing too make it happen.

Maybe peds are like guns in America. People want to ban them but there are already 400 million guns so it's kind of hopeless.

And the better boxers are gonna beat the testers anyways because they can afford better, more knowledgeable doctors who will be one step ahead of any commission because there is more financial incentive to be.

                It sucks really.

Sounds like Dr Usman Sajjad is where Eggs Bennedict might have got his clomiphene.

i think they should allow some type of peds.. not the ones that make you turn into superman.. but if a boxer is looking to take some peds to cut weight. i dont see any issue with that?
