    Bobby Foster vs Joe Calzaghe

Thought of this one pretty randomly, but i would like to know what you guys think would happen.

the fight is at light heavyweight, the best versions of each. I know people would say Calzaghe was better at 168 but i feel he could have made 175 without trouble.

    15 rounds for the championship.

Calzaghe has to be very careful early, but he never is, so there's a danger he might get stopped before he even gets going. If he does survive the early rounds though, I think he would put up a Chris Finnegan-like effort with Foster's greater punching power being the difference in the end.

Nobody ever looks good against Calzaghe, but Foster's reach and deadly power make this dangerous for Joe. I'd pick Foster by a clear decision over Calzaghe, whether it were 12 or 15 rounds. Foster's stiff jab keep Joe on the outside with the huge difference in power making Joe more reluctant than usual.

For me Calzaghe's prime was when he was 26/27. He had the same attributes he had at the end of his career (handspeed, durable, adaptable etc) but he also had A LOT more power than he did when he fought Hopkins and RJJ. I can see Calzaghe winning by late KO/ or UD. It would've been a great fight though.

The problem with that is Calzaghe was beating super middles then. He had never faced anyone even remotely close to the size and power of Bob Foster.

Or skills for that matter, Foster was fantastic at using his size and reach advantage.

Indeed. Its a tough fight to call for me. I just have a feeling that Calzaghe would get through the early rounds and his better stamina, and workrate would win him the fight. Although Foster could just keep Calzaghe on the end of his very good jab and break him down for a mid/late stoppage. It would depend on which fighter imposed their will first.

                You are nuts...

No one can win a clear decision over Calzaghe. Especially someone as big and lumbering as Foster.

Fosters only shot would be to go for the KO, and Joe has one of the best chins I ever saw in boxing.

Dominant UD and easy night for Joe.

That you called Foster "lumbering" tells me all I need to know about what you know about Bob Foster. Calzaghe's record against lightheavies in their prime? 0-0. But then again its become very clear to this forum that you are a total mark for every British fighter.

You are correct...I really only know him from the Ali and Frazier fights. He didnt look "fast" against these Heavyweights so I don tsee how hed look fast against a SMW like Joe.
