An all-British heavyweight title defense could be next for IBF titleholder Daniel Dubois if he doesn’t fight lineal champion Oleksandr Usyk – who holds the WBA, WBO, and WBC titles – in a rematch.
The IBF has reportedly ordered Dubois to face the next available contender, Derek Chisora, . The IBF’s ruling, which has not yet been confirmed by BoxingScene, is just one of several obstacles that need to be resolved before Usyk and Dubois can meet again.
The WBO has already ordered Usyk to meet interim champion Joseph Parker, who is riding a wave of momentum after a run of victories over Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole. Usyk and Dubois must file an exemption to make the undisputed title fight, though Warren says his company, Queensberry Promotions, hasn’t reached out yet.
"Well, Dubois' mandatory with the IBF is Derek Chisora, so he may have to do that [if he doesn't fight Usyk]," Warren told Talksport.
"But [the IBF] will allow him to have a unification if we get it approved [by the WBO].”
What complicates Warren’s position is that he also promotes Parker, having requested for the WBO to order the fight, though he says he would prefer if Usyk and Dubois unify all four belts first.
Usyk, 23-0 (14 KOs), and Dubois, 22-2 (21 KOs), have some unfinished business dating back to their 2023 fight, which Usyk won by ninth-round knockout. Usyk dominated the fight on the cards, but some feel he should have been ruled down in the fifth round after a punch to the midsection was ruled a low blow, preventing a count.
"Four belts is the priority for obvious reasons, and I think it's a fight that will sell out Wembley or do massive business in Riyadh because of the controversy in the first fight,” said Warren.
"So I think that would be the number one choice, and Daniel has come on a bundle since that fight, so it would be interesting.”
Warren figures that Usyk-Dubois II wouldn’t negatively impact Parker, as he would maintain his spot in line by virtue of the interim belt, and would get another payday, possibly on the Usyk-Dubois undercard.
Chisora, 36-13 (13 KOs), is a two-time heavyweight title challenger. At 41, Chisora finds himself back in title contention based on his victory over Otto Wallin last month, dropping the Swedish southpaw twice in an IBF eliminator.
