Never that well. I have a lot of friends who I could probably learn from if I ever got really into it

One time I was right outside of Harvard and a guy was sitting at a table with two chess boards offering to play $40 games with a one piece disadvantage. Had to stay around to watch one guy lose badly against him lol.

Shoulda asked who he was. Anyone with balls that big is probably a known commodity in chess.

I've been getting into it lately. It's so great on finding strategies. I can see how boxers would damn sure enjoy it. How about you guys?

The object of chess boxing is to either beat your opponent in alternate rounds of chess or boxing. Matches can be won from either discipline with the chess coming down to check mate or forfeit and the boxing in either a stoppage or points decision.

I ain't done ChessBoxing, but I've tried playing Chess immediately after heavy BJJ training and rolling and I can tell you for free than that level of exhaustion absolutely hammers your ability to focus on the game... the amount of mental discipline involved has to be crazy.

Oh yeah and to qualify to compete in Pro tourneys Chess Boxing players need at least an 1800 ELO ranking and to have had at least 40 fights ammy or pro. These guys ain't just walked in off the street.

Ended up playing Chess in a bar for 10 or 20DM a win (this was before Euros came in) and sleeping in a local building site (and subsequently an Anarchist commune) for a coupla weeks. Problem was I kept spending my winnings on beer and so my earning capacity declined as the evening went on so I pretty much always went to sleep skint.

Hold up, with the magic of the internet I bet i can find the bar now... that'll be a blast from the past.

You sound like the type of guy I would have really hit it off with while touring the European or EU hostel's

Czech Republic, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain.......... hit them all and basically lived day-to-day...... even got a job in Spain at a bar and paid for myself for 6 months
