I mean, to be fair it's not quite the same as free As.. sounds more like they wanted a lower bar for passing the course. The basis being that they are heavily invested in / distracted by the ongoings of the time or whatever.

Did they specifically say this leniency should be afforded to Black people only, or did he extrapolate that part? If yes, I feel more sympathy for the professor as he could not reasonably have agreed to that request. If no, I still understand him choosing not to honor it but I would have dialed back the response a great deal.

In fact I sat for an Operating Systems final exam worth 40% of my grade after sitting with her for days in the hospital, knocking my grade down from an A to a B+.

It was a non-black student (Hispanic female) specifically requesting that black students automatically pass the final exam.

The professor refused & said he doesn't even know which students are black (the class was already stripped down & moved online due to COVID-19).

The student leaked the emails & professor was sent multiple credible threats, suspended by UCLA.

He's kind of fcked. UCLA may feel it looks too much like a move against *** to keep him around now. He's caught in the crossfire of a political issue when it should just be an issue of students and school policy (ie, it shouldn't even be up to the prof to decide what outside circumstances qualify students for an accommodated version of the course)

Read the article. The post is not all that misleading. Nothing the professor said or did was wrong.

It is CBS you should be critical of.

Who said anything about the professor doing wrong? He’s talking about the misleading post with added words that’s not even in the article. No one is reporting anything about free grades besides op.

Meaning students would still have to take the exam and get the correct answers. You must don’t have any reading comprehension skills? You still haven’t answered why you lied and said, “They requested that the final become an automatic pass”.

Nope, it specifies that it wasn't the black students who requested it. It's an online class so the professor didn't even know what the students looked like.

I have read the thing and it seems they weren't asking for the black kids, but that exam should be postponed in general. For all of us who have been in University, know that most students do anything they can to delay or postpone exam. I had a white classmate who was well-off. His parents run a military magazine and other businesses. He was getting married in Hawaii; he was older than your average student, so that explains the marriage. He tried to an alternative date, but he couldn't get it done. I remember a convo he had with the prof, when he asked the prof to give him a break down of his mark. The exam was worth 20% of the final because it is an entrepreneurship course, so we accumulated marks by mostly projects. So, the prof gave him his mark and he realized he already passed the course with a "C". He came in the final and did about two questions, wrote his name on the paper, motioned to all of us (group members) and left.

I know of an Indian kid who didn't want to do the exam, so he pulled the fire alarm. Doctor's note is a regular. Asian kids doing bull to get to do the exam early and selling it to their friends. I say all that to say this--- these kids (non-black allies) could be seizing the opportunity of what is going on, using the protest and ***, to delay or avoid exams. This is just kids being slick and trying to get out of exams.

NB: People think online courses are easy, and they can be, but the amount of distractions involved it is ridiculous. With everything going on, social media, and the access online content, i can guarantee many of those kids are way behind.
