What can you do to develop explosive power to throw a powerful left hook like that?
Tommy Morrison’s explosive left hook was a result of perfect weight transfer, hip rotation, and leg drive. He generated power by pushing off his back foot while stepping in slightly, allowing him to add forward momentum. His hook was compact, fast, and devastating, often used as a counter or set up with feints. To develop a similar punch, training should focus on rotational power through medicine ball throws, explosive lower-body movements like jump squats, and heavy bag work emphasizing full hip rotation. Shadowboxing with resistance bands can help build speed, while mitt work refines timing and counters. Watching his fights against Razor Ruddock and George Foreman can provide valuable insight into how he set up and delivered his knockout left hook.

His hook was explosive, fast. and devertainly powerful.

What can you do to develop yours? While I think broad shoulders and a good twist if the hips are key ( you either have them or you don't / can't )

A true left hook hook is like a swinging gate of a punch. Fans misunderstand the mechanics of it.

You can work on a courter hook if your reach is not great ( recommended ) or a power hook or if you're blessed with board shoulder and hip twist well.

I recommended sparring or shadow boxing with 16 source gloves or light wrist weights. You want to weigh yourself down practicing.

If you get down the mechanics and speed / power, it is the best punch in boxing.
