The story of this belt:
-Jack knocks out Makabu for the title
-Jack requests a shot at the bridgerweight title, which the WBC grants
-Jack is declared cruiserweight champion-in-recess as he waits his mandatory shot at briderweight
-Mikaelian knocks out Makabu for the vacant title
-Mikaelian is ordered to face Rozicki but pulls out of the fight 5 different times due to injuries and Don King shenanigans
-Mikaelian is stripped and declared champion-in-recess
-The WBC fails to deliver Jack his promised bridgerweight title shot so he invokes his right as champion-in-recess to challenge for the cruiserweight title
-The WBC cruiserweight title is vacant, so the WBC reinstates Jack as cruiserweight champion and orders him to face Rozicki
-Rozicki tears his bicep in training, misses out on his title shot for a sixth time
-Mikaelian invokes his right as champion-in-recess to challenge for the title
-The WBC orders Jack vs Mikaelian
What a silly mess the WBC made of all this.
Thanks for the synopsis.
How unlike the WBC to make a mess of things. Essentially we're getting two champions-in-recess facing off for all the marbles. A single-title unification of sorts. As a big fan of belts, I hope the WBC takes this opportunity create a special one to honour this prestigious and unprecedented occasion. Call it the WBC Champion-in-Recess No Longer in Recess title.
