I was on the Berlanga hype until his first fight that went the distance. I completely lost all hype on him. The fact that he was nearly calling out Canelo back then makes me laugh looking back at it. How embarrassing would that have been if he was himself was taken out in the first rd?

Berlanga can be a GOOD Rican fighter but he's far from what we may have thought of him. KO'ed stiffs, then has mediocre boxing ability. This isn't going to translate well against the elite.

Point blank, Berlanga does not have the "IT" factor, period! His resume was crafted and his last 3 fights showed he is not special or a chosen one or a legend or any of that.
Damn Wicked Damn Wicked likes this.

At this point maybe just strive to not become the next Felix Verdejo.

Of course you can be new Miguel Cotto. Why not?

That's Jose Cotto in the picture not Miguel Cotto, but they are brothers, so I can see how the mistake came about.

He has two arms and two legs, so I guess technically.

I have been watching boxing for most of my life and I'm 68. So I have seen the great ones come along and have also seen the ones that were failures when they stepped up the competition. Berlanga, at this point of his career doesn't show the promise that Miguel Cotto, or Felix Trinidad demonstrated at the same juncture of their careers. Berlanga is not even close! To be totally honest, to date he's been just a guy who's been promotionally hyped that has been carefully matched against guys who not even remotely had a chance of beating him. He needs to show a lot more in the ring, such as smooth boxing ability, good foot work, being able to throw combinations, change angles and better defense. He needs to step up the competition, fight REAL challenges and win convincingly before he can mention or compare himself with HOF boxers such as Cotto, or Trinidad. The jury is still out on this kid!
