Canelo definitely has his share of haters, but this isn't a bunch of people hating on him for ****s and giggles, there is a legitimate reason. Canelo is a really good (but, in my opinion), NOT great fighter, BUT he CAN'T manufacture his greatness! ATG fighters reached that status by fighting and beating the BEST in and around their natural weight classes, without cherry picking every opponent that suits your style. Obviously this strategy has done well for Canelo's bank account, and his delusional fanbase, and sadly even boxing writers that have likely forgotten more about boxing that I will ever know are jumping on the ATG bandwagon, by suggesting that if Canelo successfully beats that cruiserweight champ (his name escapes me at the moment), he will have eclipsed Pacquiao's career of winning titles at multiple weight classes. That's hilarious! While Canelo certainly has the best current resume in boxing, anyone that thinks that Canelo, his record and legacy are on par with Pacquiao's, truly doesn't know **** about boxing, and I will gladly debate with anyone who thinks otherwise. Please @ me...lol.

Everybody sitting on their a.sses begging for a Canelo payday. Benavidez, Charlo, Andrade..yet none of these clowns will fight each other. Canelo has to fight you and sell the fight and you just show up to collect the payday. Thats why am not mad at Canelo doing as he pleases at this point. All of these clown are adopting the Caleb Plant formula, though Benavidez may be the exception. Fight a lot of bums and preserve the Canelo payday. If you are mad at Canelo, you are just hating at this point. Floyd did the same thing at welterweight and unlike Floyd Canelo at least unified his division and he's moving up to fight at Cruiser whether you like his choice or not.

David lost his only leverage while being in the same weight class as Canelo. The same way people wanted to see Roy move up for Ruiz even if he wasnt the best. we want to see Canelo try his hand at CW and fight a champ (also not accused of being the best).
The only one with anything to gain in a Benavidez fight is Benavidez, win or lose. He acts like canelo isnt going to make the same amount of money against Makabu as he would fighting one of us oe Benavidez. Lmao.
I’m a giant Benavidez fan but they dont realize the difference in their careers. Benavidez is still building a name while Canelo is building a legacy. Being a 5 weight champ is the goal, can’t hate.
Not many besides us on this website can name all the fighters Pac beat to be 8 weight champ, or Floyd or oscar, etc, but thats a legacy they leave behind, an incredible achievement, especially with these weight classes.
like another poster said, head Canelo off. Give him a REASON to fight you. You’re younger, be smart. You can’t make weight for a title fight? Move up. Canelo is not cutting much weight if he fights at CW, which means he can put on weight…which means he couldn land at Light Heavy with a Beterbiev who will be a year older. Get to Beterbiev, Bivol, Zurdo etc before Canelo or try to. Try to take what he doesnt have yet. If he still doesnt fight you when he leaves, you’re in a position to pickup what he left. Patience. Benavidez has the one thing over Canelo that almost no one else does and thats a big age gap in his favor.

Canelo has to be one of the biggest hypes in recent boxing memory....right behind Deontay wilder and Tyson fury. The guy has done nothing but fight weak brits and pillow handed fighters...a lot of his opponents can qualify for both of those.
Boxing has become a damn joke now which is why I'm snuggling up to MMA more and more....just sick of the dumb boxing antics.

Ducking is a oart of boxing. U think Canelo and his team don't strategically pick and choose their fights carefully, avoiding guys at their peak and waiting them out, or pick guys that have a name that are past prime, or pick light punchers that can't hurt him? If u go down his list of opponents, they all fall in one of those categories. Try it and see!
With that said...I agree with everything else in your post.Last edited by Fighter78; 12-28-2021, 10:30 AM.

He's hardly running scared lol. Benavidez has no belt, and Canelos collecting them. And Canelo gets a big payday no matter who he fights. So Benavidez doesn't bring anything to the table. Still, that said, I'd rather see the Benavidez fight rather than Makabu. But if his son didn't lose his title a couple of times due to a lack of professionalism, then he wouldn't be in this position. I'm really starting to get fed up listening to these father/trainers who talk BS on behalf of their son's.

There are countless examples in boxing history where a fighter didn't fight another fighter, for any number of reasons, but the difference between Canelo, and the other fighters you mentioned, is that those other fighters had already proven themselves against their peers; Ray Leonard had the other 3 of the '4 kings', amongst others, Aaron Pryor had Alexis Arguello amongst others, and Foreman fought Ali, Norton, and Joe Frazier amongst others. Those are all career and legacy defining fights. What career defining fights has Canelo had? His best wins, in no particular order, are against GGG, Lara, Cotto, Trout, and Mosley. While he barely edged out GGG in their rematch, that's hardly a dominant win. He barely beat Lara (who most people thought deserved the decision), and Trout (good but not great fighter), and Cotto and Mosley were far past their primes, so while their names look good on his record, they deserve asterisks next to their names, same with Canelo's win over a badly faded Sergei Kovalev. So, even though prize fighting is ultimately about the prize (money), the sport of boxing is also supposed to be about the best fighters fighting the best opponents to determine who's superior in the ring, and when it's clear that certain fighters want to have their cake and eat it too, I see through the charade, and will call bull**** every time.Oracle01 likes this.
